Happy Jack, it's early in a long season. My Red Sox will be in the hunt in September. The boys in Arlington may have a few holes in their pitching staff. Kinda like your golf swing......

Hey Butterfingers, just saw where your pink sox are off to a 0-6 start. Worse start since 1945! Have you been sending letters of encouragement or video coaching tips?? Maybe Tin Cup sent them a picture of you in your golf attire, including the  red "B" shoes. You may have to fly up there and fry a chicken on in the clubhouse.

Karen,  praying for you, your doctors and nurses as well as a speedy recovery.  Be easy on Bobby.
It's too late Jack!  You'll just have to wonder.
You are driving tomorrow SNL, aren't you?

yeah SNL - the directions are in the mail!!!
I am just hoping that I feel better after the surgery then I do right now - since I am off of some of my meds for migraines until after the surgery I now have a migraine.  Course it could be that I am nervous also.  Poor bobby was working around the house today and I did nothing - well talked to Toni on the phone.

JS - I was a bit disappointed when I opened your link.  I just knew it was going to be a link to that duet you & Michael did!!!  Oh well, the program was nice.

Shorcake, it's up to 12 now.  Better opt for that big 32 cup percolator rather than those two small pots!!  BTW, don't forget to email the direction so we won't have any trouble finding you!!

Okay, SNL and Hawkins ... don't think I didn't pick up on your little jabs about Michael Martin Murphy. That's pretty cruel to keep rubbing salt in those old wounds.

I know I've brought this up before, but at one time MMM and I were pals - even performed onstage together back in 1955 (at Clinton P. Russell -National Education Week, Nov. '55). But all that came to an end when he persuaded our mutual agent to drop me and make HIM a star. Then he swept Elizabeth Gerbetz off her feet, knowing I'd pined for her for years!

On another topic, Karen, I hope your knee surgery goes well. Then, with your new knee - go kick Jack & Sandy Lynn in the seat of the pants for me.

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes, it was a quiet peaceful evening, just the way I like it. One thing did happen that has never happened on my birthday, it snowed last night. It didn't stick but there were big fluffy flakes and since I love to watch it snow, I thought that was a special gift.
Sammy, I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom, I know it is not an easy time.

Shortcake, I will be thinking about your tomorrow. I know you are going to be more honery than ever once you get your knee back in good working order. You have to be ready for the upcoming pillow fights after all.

Happy Birthday Rod!!
OK, Sandy Mc, I'll bite. Why do you think I should re-nickname Sandy Joe and what do you think it should be?? Heck the boy has so MANY nick names now he is confused. It is hard to tell when you call him if he is ignoring you or just doesn't realize you are talking to him. Butterfingers, Pool Guy, Golf Pro (he picked that one) Concrete Swamp Maker, the names his "guest workers" call him, oh, let's not forget the names SueSue uses, the "special" sweet names Bovie and Buddy have for him and several that can not be mentioned in mixed company.

Hey Shortcake - Is your knee surgery tmo a "day surgery" thing?  McMakin & I were rounding up the girls and were wondering what time Sat morning we should arrive.  Is 8:00 too early??  We'll bring the donuts, but you'll need to furnish lots of coffee.  I think there'll be about 10 of us.

Sandy - my book is at the RV so I can't check it but our address here is 107 E. Barker Creek Rd., Scroggins, TX 75480 - that is the closest post office to us.  We keep hoping they will built one closer but since they keep saying they are going to close some I doubt they will.

Jim - Ironic you should ask, because the answer is a fed shutdown & employee furlough could be both a curse & a blessing for us.

The curse part is obvious, since we have no idea how long a furlough may last or any guarantee of being reimbursed for lost pay if/when the budget is approved.

The blessing, however, came with precision timing.  We received an e-mail from DC today reminding us that next week is National Volunteer Week.  So, if the furlough happens, we'll have plenty of unpaid time-off to volunteer our services elsewhere.  Say what?

Better hold me back from a deal like that - I can hardly restrain myself!  It's such fun being a political pawn.
