We rcvd some sad news this evening regarding our extended family on Kathy's side.

Her niece & family lived nearby us til a coupla months ago.  Then, they moved to Columbus, MS, where her husband had found a better job, plus, they have other family members in the area.

One of the niece's female cousins & 2 young daughters were evidently caught in the path of a tornado last night and were missing this morning.

This evening, we rcvd a text stating all 3 were discovered along a railroad track, miles away - mother dead, both daughters in critical condition - 1 with a broken neck & the other impaled by a piece of lumber.

I hardly knew these people - met them briefly while attending a family funeral in LA 2 yrs ago.  But, I'm heart-sick at these losses, as I have been for most of the day, watching news footage of other victims  & neighborhoods in AL.

Please say a few special prayers for all these folks - they sure need us - thanks.

Sorta like this is Willie Shakespeare:

T'was in the restaurant that they met,
Romeo and Juliette.
He had no money to pay the debt.
So Romie owed what Jullie et.

Smiley, is that anything like Toby Keith says in his song . . .  I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was!

John, "uncanny" is an understatement!  You could be his stand-in/double!

Jack, Janis and I never had what you'd call a "real" date, but I've been in her vicinity on two ocassions. In June, 1967 I was in Monterey,Calif. at Fort Ord - completing my Basic Training. On a weekend pass Russell Pendleton and I went into town. The Monterey Pop Festival was going full bore; and over the fence at the fairgrounds you could hear the voices of Jimi Hendrix, Janis J. and others. We didn't realize at the time that "history" was being made. [true story]

Fast forward to 1969 ... I find myself at a party in Corpus Christi and Janis is there! She says if anyone in this room can impersonate Tom Jones "Raise Your Hand". Of course (back then) my resemblance to him was uncanny, so my hand shot up in the air. "Come on over here and DANCE", she ordered me. Here is an old filmstrip (I'll always cherish) of what happened next:
