Place: LV, TX Comments: Encouraging News - Rcvd this from an office co-worker & passed to my brother, Doug, also: According to papers published yesterday in Science Translational Medicine and the New England Journal of Medicine, researchers at the University of Pennsylvania cured leukemia in two out of three patients. This breakthrough treatment involves the genetic re-engineering of the patient's T cells to fight off the cancer cells. If this new technique proves to be effective, it can be adapted to fight all forms of cancer. The primary men responsible for this breakthrough are medical doctors Carl June and David Porter. The process of this new treatment begins by extracting the T cells of the patient. T cells refer to a special group of white blood cells called lymphocytes that are critical to the human immune system. After the extraction, they reprogram the T cells to target specific malignant cell and destroy them. The most interesting part, the T cells are re-engineered to divide until they build an army to overwhelm their target. Moreover, these cells remain in the body to make sure that their enemies don't come back. The Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania has plans to test the technique on pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer, brain cancer, and mesothelioma. June wants to ensure that his treatment is fully backed by the FDA before making it commercial. Place: Richardson Comments: Don picked me up from Love abt 7:00 last night. It was 101 & 103 in Houston last 2 days. Getting in/out of a hot car parked in the sun on a hot parking lot & walking across parking lots to the bldgs to see clients for 2 days has worn me out! Now I know how my flowers are feeling . . . wilted!!! Don & I are going to a friends funeral tda at 1:00. No one from SOC, but rather an old SW Bell / AT&T friend. Also saw in the paper this mrng that Mary Skwarlo's dad, Charles Skwarlo, passed away Tue. The visitation is tonight 7-9 at the church, St. Anne Episcopal Church, 1700 N. Westmoreland, DeSoto TX. Mary, my thoughts & prayers are with you as you lay your dad to rest. Love you!

Any chance you'll wear your hair that way for the SOC Hop?? PLEASE??

Place: HOT Lakewood Comments: Happy Birthday Happy Jack. Your present is in my truck which reads 115 degrees. The six pack is a tad warm. Two more weeks of this heat and I'll be as thin as Cold Cash Dagley. If you can handle the heat, let's tee it up next week. Pool Guy
Place: Bayfield, CO Comments: I will get the RV as cold as I can and see if I can bring some of the weather back to Texas with me!!!!!
Place: Benbrook Comments: Hope you had a great B Day,Jack!! Continued prayers for Miss ADA and SAM!
Place: 66erville Comments: Since the kind words and wishes have continued, I'll continue to celebrate. I urge you to do so too. The Black Pearl has sailed, but enjoy your favorite drink and think of me. Except for icey Shortcake. A whiskey SOUR for you unless you lasso that cool weather and bring it back with you
Place: Garland USA Comments: Happy Jack....and I imagine you are by now (lol), I'm really sorry about missing your birthday but here's to continuing the celebration for yet another day! Don L., I think we should wrap "Edith" up in a heavy blanket as soon as she gets back in town. Shortcake, bottle up some of that cold air and bring it back. You never know when someone else's a/c will be on the blink!! SNL, thank goodness you got that a/c fixed before you had to go out of town! I was thinking about you and Don! Glad to hear news on Ada and Sammy but Sarah still needs our prayers. We will continue to pray for her and your family. Just read on FB that Mary Skwarlo Goins' dad passed away - at the age of 89 after a short illness. I'm convinced that grandchildren and granddogs are the reason for not killing our children! I am dog-sitting for my granddogs - that makes seven little fur babies running around under my feet. Bruce gets to babysit with two of his grandsons tomorrow. Oh, happy day!
Place: LV, TX Comments: Shortcake ("Edith") - Stifle youself! You DO have to come back this way sooner or later! Unless you're staying til Thanksgiving, it'll probably still be over 100, so enjoy the chills & get ready to re-hang your coat. ![]()
Place: Allen, TX Comments: OMG. Sis, did I forget your birthday? (Before people start asking, Betty McKee Wollenberg and I are not related that we know of. I just call her sis because some people used to think we were brother and sister. And, I would be happy as puddin' to have her as my sister.) Anyway, a BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you. Sure wish you and Gale were coming to the reunion. Maybe you two can make one of the get togethers. The invitation to stay at our house still stands when, not if you guys decide you can come down here. Would be wonderful seeing you again. And, you and Connie would absolutely LOVE one another. Hope your birthday was everything you wanted it to be. |
