Place: Schse Comments: ALL-RIGHT!!! What a way to end a three day weekend than a BBQ at Gordy's house?? For those of you who don't know, Gordy is a MASTER BBQ'er. His brisket just melts in your mouth. Let's all meet at Gordy's, bring a side dish to share, have something cold to drink and eat some of the best BBQ you have ever had. It even puts a big smile on Shortcake's face. It'll take you back to those long lost BBQ joints like Bob White's and Red Bryan's. Those are good memories. I'm sure we will find more to share there. Those who don't come are almost sure to be talked about and be accused of being anti-social or at least having Cooties!

Place: Carthage, TX Comments: Carol, I think you are right about your assessment of that being Virginia. At the end of Obama's speech, she (or whoever it is) stuck out her hand and shook hands with the Pres. Like him or not, that has to be exciting.
Place: Richardson Comments: I ck'd it out Carol. I don't think so. I spent some time w/Virginia at our 40th & that doesn't look like her to me. But then I'm not very good at identifying people in photos! I do know she was a sch teacher in Joplin at the time of the tornado & it did do considerable damage to her home! She was right in its path. She repaired her home & still lives there. Carbonated drinks of any flavor are bad for you! I was an avid Dr. Pepper drinker all my life. I quit cold turkey more than 18 yrs ago. Only coffee, tea or water . . . No Sugar! My vice . . . an ocassional good margarita or scotch! I don't add sugar to them either! ![]()
Place: KC, MO Comments: So sorry to hear about Diana. She was a sweetheart. Best wishes to Debbie and Dane. Now, to "give the devil his due"...I read the transcript of Obama's Joplin speech...it actually was decent and was not the campaign speech that I feared it would be. Kudos to his writer. The text is at http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2012/05/21/text-of-obama-commencement-speech-in-joplin-mo/. Look closely at the second picture. Sure looks like Virginia Macon standing in front of the banner. What do you think? - Carol
Place: Richardson Comments: Sad New tda . . . Diana Crockett Phillips has passed away. She was married to Richard Phillips, both were from our class. Please click the URl below for a link to her obit. God Bless Richard & their family as they mourn the loss of Diana. "Debbie had neck surgery this morning, about a 2 hr ordeal. They placed small plates on either side of her neck, and put her own bone matter to fuse the bones together. Dr said he had to remove several bone spurs on the front of her spine, just to be able to work where he needed. He said spurs on the front were hereditary, and they go all the way down her spine. She did good though. She is resting now(3:45). We should go home tomorrow afternoon. No lifting, driving, has to wear neck brace while walking. Will update later. Think i covered everythang. Take care." Prayers go out to Debbie for a full & speedy recovery! Thanks for passing along the info Dane!
Place: Allen, TX Comments: Carol, NoBama won't just blame George W. for the tornadoes, he will also blame Papa George, and Ronnie Reagan....he may go all the way back to Eisenhower. He won't blame Lincoln, though. The democrats seem to forget Abe Lincoln was a Republican. Otherwise, they would be blaming him for everything, too. The only think I want Obama to blame the Republicans for is his defeat in November. What rejoicing there will be. By the way, missed you at the reunion.
Place: Allen, TX Comments: Jack, the surgery will be done scopically and robotically. So, it will be the less invasive surgery. I am so ready to get it behind me and feel better again. About the tea, I grew up with sweet tea, only because my mom always put sacarine (sp?) in it. I always hated the taste left in my mouth from sweet tea. I am not all that keen on having sweets with my meal. I have always wanted to wait about an hour until even having dessert. After I moved out on my own, I began drinking tea without any form of sweetener. Just lemon. And, I loved it. I will tell you that I feel 100% better by dropping carbonated beverages. I am sure I will have one every now and then; but, never multiple times a day, every day, as I was doing.
Place: Overland Park, KS Comments: Hi to all. Thinking of everyone who needs encouragement. I see that Obama will speak at the Joplin HS graduation this evening. Wonder if he'll blame the tornado on Bush or on "the rich" in general? - Carol
Place: 66erville Comments: Ronney, sorry to hear about your health problem. Are they doing the microsurgery where they make (I think) three small cuts, go in and suck out the gallbladder? I understand that way is less painful and recovery is much quicker. I'm with you on the tea. I hate going out to eat and having to tell them I want UN-SWEET tea. I never knew people liked their tea THAT sweet. It's like eating a bowl of sugar. I never was much of a soda drinker. Did kinda like peanuts in a bottle of Coke.
Place: Allen, TX Comments: I just now got notification that my surgery has been moved up to 7:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 29, at Richardson Methodist. Will be SO glad to get it over so I can feel better again.
Place: Allen, TX Comments: Sammy & Sarah: You've got a handsome little grandson. Happy Birthday to him. Sam, you and I need to get together and teach him how to throw rocks so he can get in trouble like we did in the 1st grade at Bushman. hahaha!!!!
Place: Allen, TX Comments: Just to let you guys know, I am having surgery at 7:30 a.m. Friday, June 1, at Methodist Richardson hospital. My OLD gallbladder is being removed. Will be glad when it is over so I can feel better again. Right now, I am in pain all the time. Got a GREAT surgeon in Richardson, Dr. Gary White. So, I am not scared. I will be in good hands. We are going to Abilene to see our granddaughter this coming weekend. Will be a busy trip, seeing as we have to attend the high school graduation of our son's niece (daughter-in-law's family) on Saturday morning, and then drive to Trent for a graduation party for her and two of her cousins. Hope I can stand it all with this gallbladder pain. My son told me the party will have lots of fatty BBQ. I told him we will most likely stop and get me a low-fat sandwich at Subway on the way to Trent. I will have to drink water or tea. I was pretty much living on Diet Dr Pepper and Diet Coke for my drinks. About a month and a half ago, I completely gave up carbonated sodas. I had one Diet Dr Pepper about three weeks ago and it made me sick. Feel so much better not drinking soft drinks. I will probably have one every now and then, but nothing like I was doing. I cringe thinking about how much money I wasted on them. Nowadays, I drink coffee (limited), iced tea (unsweetened please...the ONLY way I have ever really liked it), water, and Crystal Lite. I will keep you informed about the surgery.
Place: Sachse Comments: Wow, I am so far behind on the GB. I try to check in at least once or twice a week but we have been so busy when not at work, with something going on every weekend. Shortcake, I really hope your knee gets better and better. I know you are tired of dealing with it. Jack, I hope that Glynda gets another job quickly. I will ask around. Barb and Bobbie, so sorry to hear of your loss. I remember what a sweet and pretty woman Billie Jones was back at Trinity Heights Church of Christ years ago. And I know she made Barb's dad a happy man after Barb's mom passes away. She is in a happy place now. To any others whose birthday, anniversary, etc. I might have missed, I hope you enjoyed them thoroughly. I have loved seeing all the beautiful grandones on the Pride and Joy page. Haven't hear from Don L. in a long while. Don, I hope your back is doing better and hope your brother Doug is doing well. Great duck story, SNL. Bet your backyard looks fab now. We have spent a lot of time in ours too. Not enough time to do everything we'd like but Mike did manage to plant "one more tree" in the back yard. I am trying to get him in a 12 step program for his "tree addiction".
