Place: sludding into home. Comments: The start of baseball season reminds me of the Rangers 5th year when all they had to do was beat the lowly Kansas City Royals to be in the playoffs. (KC had already lost over a hundred games and the locals were ahead 9-5 in the 9th inning.) The win looked so sure that the Rangers ACE reliever, Mel Famus from UCLA had already starting celebrating with 2 six -packs he had snuck into the bull-pen. When KC tied the game and then loaded the bases the mgr called for Mel to come in and get the final out. Mel was so gone he even forgot to put down his last can of beer. He did crush it and slide it under the rossen bag as he took the mound and promptly threw 4 balls and walked in their winning run. In interviewing the winning KC player that walked the announcer said" Well, Ol' Mel sure didn't have his stuff tonight. BTW, what was that that he slid under the rossen bag before he pitched? I thought the player rather clever when he said "That was the beer that made Mel Famus walk me.' Hope they do better this season
Place: Richardson Comments: TNX for info Jack. Probably a lot of people who went to SOC our Soph yr & then parents moved and they left. At least I understand why I didn't have him in database & no pic in Sr Den. He's always welcome to attend, as are others that have SOC connections or from other classes. It's amazing how so many of us, if you grew up in Oak Cliff, are connected!! I hope we have a quick bartender if I'm going to make that half second window!!
Place: 66erville Comments: Barb, praying for Susan. I had a resection back in the 80's for the same reason. With today's technologies she should be up and around in a couple of days. Any surgery is serious. SNL, Ron contacted me thru classmates email. He is in the 64 Den (our class) and Dale remembers him. He must have moved before our Jr year. Another great idea from the Pool Guy. One correction. The open bar is from 3:30 to 3:30.5. Notice all the stuff the Pool Guy is providing! He'll probably give Don his old worn out, RUSTY golf clubs as a gift. Start thinking about any Don stories you have or can make up!
Place: wet backyards Comments: April 26th SOC Mini there will be a : Welcome Home/Retirement Party for our Beloved Donnie "Cable Guy" Fugate. Roast begins at 3:30, Open Bar hosted by Happy Jack Hawkins until 3:32 Finger Foods provided by Charles Moss, Baylor Hospital's best recipes. Everyone is encouraged to show Cable Guy some love by giving him the most embarrassing, rude, cheap, pre owned gift you can find. Pawn Shops preferred. I have contacted all of his friends, but both were having Colonoscopies. Bring a friend, Let's show the Lad how much we missed his smiling face. S. McGee
Place: Richardson Comments: Barb- I'm so sorry to hear this about Susan. I know you'll be with her tmo, please let her know I'm praying for her tonight & will keep her in my prayers tomorrow. Please let us know tmo when the surgery is over and how it went. Love to you & Susan!
Place: Garland Comments: To my GB friends, my sister Susan (class of 64) needs big time prayers. She is having surgery tomorrow to have part of her small intestine removed. She went to the emergency room today in intense pain and has diverticulitis. She has not felt well for a couple of months and now she knows why. We just never know what is going to happen to us in our lives!!! Thanks for the prayers!!!!
Place: Richardson Comments: We don't have a Thompson listed in our database. If you hear from him again Jack you might try to verify his graduation yr. Did he respond to you direct or thru the Classmates thing? I got nuttin'. Sorry.
Place: Coleman Comments: If it's the same guy, we called him Ronnie, he was thin with dark hair and was very funny. Good guy. DWS
Place: Richardson Comments: TNX Jack. Just as soon as I find or figure out who Ron Thompson is, I'll make a note of it. I think he must be from your side of the family!
Place: 66erville Comments: Good thing you're cruising over, Dale. That way you can pack an extra trunk of food to eat while in England. I hear the food is terrible. A little advise, DON'T try and and bow hunt or capture one of those black bear hats. It makes the wearer kranky. DWF, I told you, I warned you and I told you again, but you did it anyway. Soon as the ground drys we got to have a play day! FYI, SNL, I got an email from Ron Thompson saying he is living in the Rockies and won't be able to attend the mini, but he would be in Dallas around labor day.
Place: Richardson Comments: I know what you mean Donnie. Don and I are stressed out this Mar, Apr & May bec we have so many irons in the fire we're struggling to get them all done by the deadlines! What with organizing SOC Mini for me, my Gauer Family Reunion I plan and execute, Don working feverishly to complete the update & refurbish of the 2 pool bathrooms B4 the HOA Pool Opening Party, I buy all the food & drink for the HOA Pool Party, HOA Board meetings for me, we're running fast!! Had to put personal remodel of our bath on "hold" because there's not enough hours in the day to do all these things and do Taxes and regular household things. It all comes together with SOC Mini 4-26, HOA Pool Opening Party 4-27, Gauer Reunion 5-4. I think Cinco De Mayo on 5-5 sounds like a good time for a margarita and to exhale!! Retirement!? I put in less hours when I was working!!
Place: Home Sweet Home Comments: Well, I have one full week of retirement under my belt am wondering how I ever had time to work! But I think I like this retirement thing.
Place: Allen, TX Comments: Connie and I plan to attend the "mini."
Place: Richardson Comments: Smiley, only you would make that comparison! Geez, that's 3 weeks you'll be gone. Sounds like you'll be covering a lot of territory. Stay safe and tell us about it when you return! Sammy- Do you think we could trade your Jack for our Jack and Sarah could just baby sit the other Jack?? Naaah, that would never work, your Jack doesn't drink Gentleman Jack! Regarding the Mini - I recvd a number of Yes responses from the email I sent to some of our grp that don't make a habit of looking at the GB. I did hear from the Pool Guy and he's coming, as well as Charles, Dagley and a slew of others. Will be nice to see everyone again!! SAVE the DATE: April 26th @ the Hyatt - 2:00 to 6:00pm!!! See our EVENTS pg. for all the details.
Place: Grosvenor, Texas Comments: Sammy and all, Sorry , Yuvonne and I will miss this mini. We leave on a trans-Atlantis cruise on April 17 and will not be back till May 8. We are staying over in London for an extra 3-4 days and will fly directly back to DFW. |
