Place: Oregun Comments: Hey, did Texas close for the winter ? It's pretty dead when an Oregon guy has to ask. Hope everyone is doing OK and Richard, I hope you are hanging in there, I know it can't be easy.
Place: Richardson Comments: Eddie, it's so nice to hear from you. I'm sure it has been tough since Barbara passed away more than a year ago. Seems like it was only a few months ago. I would love to see you, as would lots of your old SOC friends. I'll contact you before our next get-together and try to talk you in to coming. Do take care of yourself. We continue to pray for God to help Richard and you as you go forward, but it can't be easy for either of you.
Place: Mesquite Texas Comments: Richard Nance so sorry buddy to hear of your terrible loss. I Just now found out about it. As you know I too lost my Barbara last year to Cancer and I can imagine how your feeling at this time. Just wanted to say I'm keeping you and your family in my prayers and I pray with God's help you can find peace and strength again in your life.
Place: McKinney Texas Comments: Talking about Veteran's Day and Viet Nam; my stepbrother, Ronnie McElroy was killed at the battle of Hue. He was an only child and his mother had died when he was 13. He had just turned 24 and had 6 hours left graduating college. He joined the Marines and gave his country the Ultimate Sacrifice. A week after he joined the Marines he received his deferment letter. I still remember everything about that time. My professor at UTA talking against the war. A couple years later I worked with young people that were against the war. Once when they were badmouthing the war, I asked them if they knew anyone that had been killed and they said, "No." I told them that I had and who it was. They never mentioned anything about the war around me again. Now, fortunately, people in general support the troops, even though they might not support the ongoing war.
Place: McKinney TX Comments: Richard, So sorry for your loss; your wife was so sweet and funny. I met her at one of our mini's and she was delightful. Please know that I will be praying for your family.
Place: Cypress Springs Comments: We also have our fireplace going. We were in Dallas yesterday. Went to lunch with mom for Bobbys birthday ...it is tmr. Had planned a party here unknown to him but I cancelled that since Peg was helping me with that. I thought about bob hook Tuesday also. I tried to find some of the pictures from when we went out but when mom and dad moved once they left a bunch of things in the attic so goodbye pics! I heard you guys had some sleet up there after we left on Wednesday. So glad it waited! You guys stay warm.
Place: Richardson Comments: How funny Sammy. But I know what you mean about the voting dilemma. I hate it when the Props are worded so that if you vote YES you are voting against doing something and if you No you are voting for it! I guess you can be surprised at what eventually goes in on the cleared lot. We turned our fireplace on yesterday too. feels good of a morning while reading the paper.
Place: Freezing at the Lake Comments: So I 'm sitting in front of the fire place looking across the field in front of my house. There is someone clearing the field. Reflecting on the recent election and a local proposition that stated " A vote for a law against the vote for a tax restriction law for county funds for the establishment against a residual tax for the purpose for and against using said tax for uses for non private organizations" Yes or No. At this point, I'm not for sure if a bordello or a church is being constructed across the street, and I'm certain I voted for it!
Place: Brrrrrr in Richardson Comments: Something to brighten your day - - - - Ck out the front pg of the Business section of the Dallas Morning News today. It has a great story about a SOC grad who is doing great things! His name is Casey Gerald. He's a SOC 2005 grad, graduated with a degree from Yale in 2009, worked 2 yrs and then graduated from Harvard in 2014. Do read the story in the DMN, or look it up on-line, because it will make you proud. Remember his name, because it's better to brag about Casey Gerald than sheepishly admitting Dennis Rodman came from SOC!!
Place: Garland USA Comments: Richard, we are so very sorry for your loss. We will keep you and your beautiful family in our thoughts and prayers. We all feel privileged to have met Mary Ann.
Place: Richardson Comments: Yes, today we should be thankful to all our veterans. Young, old, active or inactive. Let's be especially grateful to those, Like Bob Hook, who lost their lives and to those who died later resulting from injuries and trauma directly related to their service. The Viet Nam War was a long, tough road and many of our friends are still suffering today from wounds that are both visible and invisible. Thank you to all the men and women who have, and still do, serve our country! God Bless You and the USA.
Place: Kenosha, WI Comments: The Vietnam War was the most unpopular and divisive conflict our country, and those that served, has ever had to endure.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude and love for the sacrifice and service the men and women from the South Oak Cliff HS Class of 1966 have given to our great nation. And as a special remembrance to those who made the ultimate sacrifice I ask that that you pray for Bob Hook and never forget his legacy that was left for all remaining classmates to pass on to future generations. May God Bless Bob and all of our classmates who are no longer with us and protect them as they complete the journey of life. And God Bless America.
Place: Kenosha, WI Comments: I hope what I am about to share with all of you will not be considered inappropriate given our concern over Richard. However, I want you to know...that Kenosha, and more specifically a family, with whom we are best friends, will finally be able to bury their second oldest son who was lost in Vietnam and listed as a POW/MIA since July of 1967. They found remains in Cambodia where he died in captivity. The contents of the box were not reviewed until 1987. Confirmation of his identity wasn't completed until recently. His name is Staff Sargent James (Jim) L. VanBendagom. His burial is tomorrow, Nov 11th - Veterans Day at 11:00 A.M. Thank you for letting me share. May God Bless Jim and all of our SOC friends.
Place: Kenosha, WI Comments: Richard... I understand there is nothing Kathy and I can say that will remove your pain. We pray for you and your children to find the strength through our prayers as well as the multitude of friends who have expressed their condolences. May God Bless you and protect you.
Place: Richardson Comments: Richard, Please know Don & I are thinking of you and your family and praying for strength to allow you to make it thru this terrible time. Yesterday I didn't turn my PC on and when I did today I was floored! This may not be the time, but maybe it's the perfect time, to tell you this story. As soon as I read the GB and found out what happened, I told Don. Immediately we both thought of the same story! It was back before our 40th and you & Mary Ann had flown in to attend one of our Get-Togethers. Don & I met you & Mary Ann and Deryl & Carol on Fri evening (B4 our party on Sat) and we started with drinks at the Double Tree where y'all were staying. Then we got in the Limo and the party really started! Lots of laughs and fun but the funniest thing was said by Mary Ann. The Limo had some dim lights in it but someone decided to turn them off. Carol was telling one of her funny stories and right in the middle Mary Ann threw her hands up and yelled, " OK, no fair. You know I can't hear in the dark!". She had a way of making people laugh and putting them at ease and I laughed so hard I almost wet my pants!! After dinner and a nightcap at the Stoneleigh Pea, we headed back to the hotel and our cars. Between Mary Ann & Carol, they kept us laughing all night. Richard - All of us are here for you and even though we are scattered all across the country, we have your back and are praying for you. Our love to you and your family. |
