Place: der Grosvenor Comments: Richard, I take no credit for the event. It was Bobby's' M-80 and plan. I just saw him do it. When we gave up on the cafeteria plan I honestly thought we had decided to tie it to the slow burning fuse and light it in the vacant auditorium (next to the office) and be back in class in full view of our teachers when it went off. I can still see that "mad scientist" grin Bobby did so well as he lit the short fuse and dropped it in the toilet. I was as surprised as everyone. Next I watched him giggle as we ran down the hall. He was so cool. I was scared to death.
Place: Calif. Comments: Man, that's quite the story. Who knew Eagan had an accomplice? Today you guys would be branded domestic terrorists.
Place: Richardson Comments: Well, that cleared up a few loose ends. Too bad Bobby won't be here to laugh about it with us at the 50th!
Place: Lazy S Ranch Comments: M- 80 part two: the original plan was to attach the M-80 to a fuse I had made from soaking sash chord in a small amount of gun powder in a solvent. I let the chord dry and it worked well when I tested it by putting firecrackers in several lockers and were long gone by the time the slow burning chord would reach the black cats.( Bobby was aware I kept some of these ready when needed ) We talked about setting it off in the lunch room at noon but the lighted chord would give off a small amount of smoke and we were afraid it would be found before it exploded. We also could not think of a place to put it where no one would be hurt. That plan was scuttled during the second period meeting in the boy's room and the rest is history.
Place: Grosvenor, Texas Comments: SNL, I may can help a bit with the Bobby Eagan caper. There were 3 of us in the restroom at the time. Bobby had obtained a M-80 (which I understand is one eighth of a stick of dynamite} and showed it to me before school started that day. We agreed to meet second period when I was a lab assistant for Mr. Stratman and decide what to do with his prize. He told me that this firecracker had a fuse that would burn even submerged in water and I doubted that fact. To prove it, he lit the fuse and dropped it in the commode and hit "flush". It was only about 3-6 inches in the wall when it went off. The commodes were the type that came out from the wall and were not attached to the floor at all. The explosion sheared the entire unit off at the wall, water went everywhere and we hit the door. You're right, it was loud but did not seem to affect our hearing.
Place: Sachse Comments: Carol, so sorry to hear about your mom but you were so lucky to have her for 100 years. Prayers for you and your family to heal. Hope you can make it in September as we all would love to see you again.
Place: Richardson Comments: It's too bad Bobby Eagan passed away recently. I would have loved to ask him "why" he used a cherry bomb on the toilet and is he still deaf in one ear?
Place: Calif. Comments: I got curious about our schools all of a sudden. I was a CP Russell guy. Anyway, it seems the oldest standing high school in Dallas, is North Dallas High (1922). The original proposed name of the school was to be Clinton P. Russell High School. Mothers protested vigorously, so the name didn't make it. Seems Russell resigned from the school board for "personal reasons", whatever those were. I'm not sure how his name made it to Oak Cliff. Vexing.
Place: Calif. Comments: That could be the result of latent damage from the boys' room explosion in 1966. By the way, it's not just DISD; you should see the schools making the news in LA. It's pretty unreal.
Place: 66erville Comments: I too saw the school stories. So sad. Maybe the story about some young man taking a leak while waiting to meet with Jolly Frank is true. Nah, the mold would have showed up before now.
Place: Richardson Comments: Yes, I've been following the story regarding SOC and how bad the school has gotten with leaking roof, non-working toilets, ceiling tiles falling, etc. Then for the first time yesterday I heard about the mold problem, due to leaking water, at Zumwalt. Very sad that DISD has let schools fall into such bad shape. They spend hundreds of millions to build new schools but apparently never keep up the older ones. It made me sad.
Place: West Tawakoni Comments: Any of you guys watch the news last night about the deterioration of SOC High School? And then again today Zumwalt Middle School mold problems? Sad to hear about this. Carol, blessings to you and your family.
Place: Melissa USA Comments: Carol, so very sorry to hear of your mother's passing. She certainly had a full life - we should all be so fortunate! Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Place: Richardson Comments: I hear a faint, but familiar echo in here. Don't forget . . . I'll See You In September!
Place: Lazy S Ranch Comments: We echo the echo. |
