checking in this morning.  TY Don, my L eye is getting better each day, just not quick enough for me!  LOL  If you'll send me those photos I'll see what I can do to post them here on GB.  I'm especially interested in the 20th reunion pic as 4 of the 9 listed have passed away.  Later . . .

Hi Sandy - Glad to hear your L 'peeper' is bouncing back & hope the next round goes as well on the R side.  With all you have to keep 'eyes on', we'd hate to see you lose sight of anything.  I guess that goes for all of us 'high maintenance' folks.

I called it a 'prom' photo, but it might've been a 'dinner/dance'.  Prom came to mind, so I went with it.  Maybe someone else out there will recall, or Zita might check-in & confirm the occasion.  I think we were all about to leave our lofty 6th grade perch at Oliver & become lowly shrimp at either Storey or Zumwalt, depending on where we lived.

I have a few other pix in the Oliver collection, including: 6th grade class "6A" '60, football team w/Coach Turner '60, 9 Oliver guys grouped at SOC '66 20th reunion (R. Bush, M. Dunn, J. Stoehr, L. Wilson, D. Hamm, myself, B. Egan, E. Richardson & H. Bass), and Dallas Morning News clip/photo of 6th grade class 'Law Day USA' w/V. Macon, M. Brand, T. Smith & others '60.

I also ran across a stray news clip/photo from '63 entitled "Awaiting The Big One".  It shows Boude Storey Jr. High Coach John Donaldson discussing plans for: "Saturday's city championship playoff game against Franklin with four of his players.  They are Robby Robertson, Tim Ulmen, Jerry Mott and Jerry Hopkins.  The Cobb Field game starts at 2 p.m."

If you want to post any of these or anyone else wants copies e-mailed, please let me know.

I'm back but can't stay on pc for long periods of time.  L eye went well, no problems.  Still little blurry but getting better each day. On 10-25 will see the retina specialist and hopefully R eye will be well enough to have cataract surgery on it 11-1.  The BRVO (branch retinal vein occlusion) was 95% cleared up on last months visit.  I just want to get this done soon as I've been working on it since May.

I love the Don & Zita photo!  I don't remember having a prom in 6th grade.  I do remember having a 6th grade dinner.  Y'all be good and I'll check GB & em 2-3 times a day but can't be on pc for extended periods of time.

Don Lincoln - You are very welcome!  I'm  just so happy you were able to make it up.  I sure hate that Kathy was not feeling well enough to come.  Hope her back is better.

Yes, I lucked out picking a husband, he is always there to help with the heavy lifting (cake!) signs, and other misc items.  He actually likes most of you! LOL

As for the money .  .  . I was asked the same question by some other folks.  I'm glad y'all felt you got your $20 bucks worth.  But y'all entrusted me with the class money and I feel obligated to spend it wisely.   As Jack or Donnie will confirm, I'm a conservative person and I look for bargains and do a lot of it myself.  As you probably noticed, the table decorations were very simple.  It took me 3 hotels to find one that had a good price. I'm all about getting the most bang for our money!  Plus lots of people over the year, as well as when they paid for the party, also send extra money as a donation. It's very nice of you & the others to ask if our Kitty needs money.  The answer is NO.  We're on solid ground.  There's enough in the Kitty to renew our site for an add'l 3 years in Dec. and there will still be some money in the Kitty. I won't need to ask for any donations until at least late 2019 or maybe 2020.

I appreciate all that have said how much fun they had, I did too!!  It was such an easy and fun night.  I'm kind of in the frame of mind that to heck with the expensive work intensive reunions, let's just keep celebrating b-days!  Don- if you'll send me that photo via email, I will see if I can post it here on the GB.

P.S. I'm having eye surgery tomorrow, so won't be on PC tomorrow or Tuesday.  But i'll be back Wed!  Wish me luck! [thumb]

Pardon my delay in posting my thanks, Sandy, for pulling off a terrific birthday party last Sat; and to Don, who we know helps with logistics and extends a friendly greeting when we meet.  It was a great success and well worth the rainy drive up from the TX hill country to see so many of our folks having fun and cutting up again.

This makes twice in a row that my cousin, Larry Edwards and his wife Pat, have attended our events, including the 50th – finally!

And, a lady I hadn’t previously seen at one of our events came from behind, while I was talking to Rick Mitchell, gently took my arm and began asking questions about where I had been hiding for so long - ?  She had me stumped for a few minutes, until she mentioned our 6th grade prom at Clara Oliver.
(I tried to insert a small pic of us here, but an error occurred for excessive characters - maybe Sandy can help me post it later)

It finally dawned on me – she was Zita Campbell and I hadn’t seen her since high school.  I contacted her over 10 yrs ago while helping locate ‘Missing Bears’ for our 40th reunion, but she was unable to attend  - no wonder I didn’t recognize her.  She could've kept me guessing for a while longer if she'd wanted, but it was good catching up.  She lived 1 block down from us on Marfa Ave., off Overton Rd. & Ramona Ave.

The 70 birthday program mentioned hot and cold finger food, so I expected chips, dips, etc., but I wasn’t expecting prime rib or roasted turkey from a carving station.  Not sure how that was possible for $20 per head, so if the pot’s not right, I hope you’ll let us know - it was sure tasty.  Glad we had some time to let that settle before they cut the cake, which I didn’t get a photo of, but hope Ronnie did – it was great also.

I contacted JD Garoutte by phone and told him we missed him at the party - we hadn't spoken since the 50th.  He told me he had no recollection of an e-mail about an upcoming birthday party - I told him that sort of thing happens at our age.  Anyway, he & his wife are doing well and both were over at their son's house making pizzas with their grand kids.  He asked me to tell all of you that he sends his best regards.

For those of us who headed south on Sun., I-35 bogged down about 15 mi. north of Temple.  I eventually saw a flashing sign that indicated water had crossed the roadway near Belton, so it was stop & go for a couple of hrs.  Some drivers managed to  zip-off down the grassy shoulders onto the service road and made some headway until they also backed up.  My normal 3.5 hr trip wrapped up about 6 hrs later.  But, at least I wasn't sitting in airports, wondering if & when, eh Richard?

Guess I can’t say enough, or more than others already have.  But, as always, Sandy, we’re very appreciative of your thoughtfulness and the many hours throughout the year you put into maintaining the SOC Class of ’66 website, organizing & hosting the events that help keep our family together – many thanks again!

Carol C post on FB asking if anyone else was thinking back about what we were doing one week ago today.  My memory brings up good thoughts & happiness. [love]  I had so much fun last Saturday and it seems everyone else did too.  Kinda makes me want to say, "Forget about a reunion.  .  . let's just have more crazy fun b-day parties!"  [crazy]  [tongue]

Finally got around to changing the GB decor.  I guess you could say it's officially Fall.  Cool temps alwaya make me think of pumpkins & colorful leaves.

Thank you Roe & Richard! So glad y'all got there & had a good time.  Since it wasn't a 2-night, elaborate decorations, video, etc. it wasn't hard to pull-off.  Finding a good priced hotel & negotiating the contract was the 1st & hardest step.  Well, uh . . . except transporting that huge cake from bakery to home to hotel.  LOL

I loved having such a casual, no agenda party!  It was such a great time I hated to leave.  Come to think of it, I didn't leave until 12:40 am!!  [biggrin]  Thank you to Richard N., Randy C., Vernon M., & Carol C. for such an "interesting" late night conversation.  [crazy] [rofl] [rofl]

Ronney - Yes, CD or Thumb drive or SD card will all work.  Don't worry about editing them.  Once I get them I reduce for GB & the photo frames on GB automatically frame them.  Thank you in advance for sending them as you've always done after big parties.

Sandy, I took a lot of pictures of the 70th Birthday Party. Will clean them up, crop them, enhance them (as all true photographers do) and get them to you ASAP. Will put them on a CD. Don't want to tie up your e-mail trying to send them that way.

Back in the OC, but had a great time.  Kudos to SNL and company.  Really nice get-together and really enjoyed talking with everyone.  Had a chance to take Carol C. over to Chips on Sunday and had lunch with my brother Dennis.

We were dragging today, but it was certainly worth it last night!  What a great time we had! All I can say is that we have the best class ever.  So many people braved the monsoon rains and carefully made their way to the party.  Some battled airline difficulties and barely got there at all.  It was so much fun . . . we had no agenda, we just had crazy fun eating, dancing and laughing.

And wasn't that a gorgeous B-day cake!  Pictures are forthcoming, but I'm just too tired today.

But it's not a party unless people show up.  So Thank You to everyone who made such an effort and who helped make it  a great party.  Y'all are the BEST!  I think the Mystics said it best, "Didn't We Have A Good Time, Baby?!"
