Place: The Passing of Odis McLean Comments: This is a sad and difficult message to post. Heidi (Odis step-dtr) notified me Odis passed away last night. That's all the info I have right now. As she gives me details of services I will post them here. Right now my top priority is getting them the photos they have asked for of Odis. God Bless his wife, Karen, and their whole blended family as they try to get thru this very difficult time. It's difficult for all of us too.
Place: Oak Cliff Comments: I join the rest in our group to say how awfully sad the news about Odis is. Odis is one of those guys about whom it has always been valid to say, "To know him is to love him." At SOC our friend was always open, smiling, good-natured, and friendly. At our recent gathering he still showed those positive characteristics. He and his family are in my prayers.
Place: B-day Photos Comments: I've got my never-before-seen photos from our 70th Party posted. Next, I'm posting Ronney McKee's photos. Thank You Ronney for sending them!! When/if others send their photos, I'll post them too. The hard part is done, creating the photo page on the site! Be sure to click on the 1st photo and then you can scroll thru all of them easily. Some of the pics are too big for the little square but will fully open when you click or scroll thru. Larry Edwards sent a good photo of he & 3 of his best friends!
Place: Kansas Comments: So very sorry to hear about Odis. 😢
Place: boviec@gmail.com Comments: Ronney, What a heartfelt message regarding Odis..I've always referred to Odis as "the Gentle Giant".Have known him since the 6th grade at Clinton P. Russell. Odis,my sincere thoughts and prayers are with you and your Family..Bovie
Place: Richardson Comments: Don't worry Ronney, I fixed the spelling, you're good. It was a heartfelt sentiment that I'm sure many of us are feeling. Paul - You are so right! My heart is breaking and it's made me very sad to think how difficult it must be for Karen and their children and grandchildren. The only thing I know to do is pray.
Place: OK Comments: I think this is one of the toughest parts of us all aging. We manage to cope with our own frailties and “parts failures,” but it is so difficult to helplessly watch others face such difficulties. Still praying.
Place: Allen, Texas Comments: Reading this note from Odis' daughter breaks my heart. Cannot help but get watery eyed trying to imagine such a vibrant, positive man like Odis is now so sick. It literally breaks my heart. As was written in the note, he does not have much longer to live. And, that is a positive and negative. The negative is seeing him suffer. The positive is that the suffering won't last long. Odis was a positive influence for all of us in school. Was wonderful seeing a big guy like Odis who was so kind and gentle to everyone. Just hope Odis realizes that we all love him dearly. Cannot imagine future class get-togethers without him. But, will be praying for his comfort and the comfort of his family. They have so many reasons to be proud of being in Odis' family and the rest of us for being his friend. WE LOVE YOU, ODIS. WE LOVE YOU VERY MUCH! AND WE ALWAYS WILL. You have left a lasting positive impression on each and every one of us. And, we are proud to have you in our list of friends. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY, ODIS MY FRIEND!
Place: Updates on Odis McLean Comments: I sent Andrea & Heidi my email so I could get updates from them, they are Odis & Karen's daughters. The message below is a little long but if you will read it you'll understand how grave this is for Odis and his family. Please note, today, 10-17, they are getting Odis set up on Hospice Home Health Care because it didn't happen Monday. They have requested No Visitors today. But they welcome all visitors starting 10-18 from 1 to 7 each day. God Bless this family as I know this is over whelming and very difficult. October 14th: Hello, This is Heidi Mercer, the youngest... writing on behalf of my mom. After the talk with the oncologist on Friday, we were told it is now days (although we can hope for weeks) due to how aggressive this particular cancer is. Our focus has now turned to pain management with a goal of getting him to come home to be more comfortable. This goal will be achieved tomorrow if everything falls in line with home hospice care. We are beyond grateful for the prayers that we have had. We truly can feel them... He has been up down, up down, up down every handful of minutes. However, doing it on his own is not an option so it takes one, sometimes two people to help him each time. This has become tiring on us, especially his sweet son, Jason, who has been taking the majority of the night duties. We were approved for a hospital patient sitter who actually went to the same high school as Odis and immediately bonded with our family. This has lifted a huge burden off our shoulders of worry. Odis has highs and lows, ins and outs. ... and honestly, so do we. To think, at this time last week we had not even been told it is cancer, blows my mind. And two weeks ago, everything was totally normal. This has taken his body so quickly and with that comes blessings and curses. Curse that it happens so quickly and unexpected but blessings that he isn't going to have to suffer like mom and Odis' first spouses did. Blessings that they had truly AMAZING MOMENTS that were not fabricated. We are going to enjoy him now with the few days we have left... as much as we can. Since he will be getting set-up with hospice at the house tomorrow, we would appreciate not having visitors since our focus for Monday is getting him home and settled and he will be spending time in the evening with Andrea, his daughter. Thursday going forward, the family welcomes visitors 1-7pm. Again, the prayers are incredible and have helped keep us going so far in this whirlwind we have been in. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Place: California Comments: Well, that is just too sad. Sorry to read that Odis is going through this.
