So glad to hear that lots of friends will be attending the SOC event in January. Sing the school songs extra loud so that those of us who won't be there can hear you. We all are Golden Bears 🐻 forever! ❤️

For those of you who may not be on FB - - -  they have finished the long over due renovations to SOC!  There will be a ribbon cutting open house on Saturday, Jan 11, 2020 a 11:00am.  Myself and several other '66ers, as well as many others from other SOC years, are planning to attend.

I think it will be great to see how they have completely renovated our old school that was in such disrepair!  Hope to see many of you there on the 11th!

I went to Marsalis in the 7th grade. But, I do not remember Sidney going there.

I am saddened to hear that Sydney Banz has passed away. I was just thinking about him this week. He lived about a mile from me in Allen, TX. We had talked about getting together at my house for dinner. But, time got away from us. Now, it is too late. My strongest school memory of him was when he was (in my opinion) the most regal drum major I ever saw. And, he was an all-around nice guy. I will certainly miss that swell guy. My sincerest thoughts to his beautiful wife and lived ones. I miss him already.

I've spoken to someone else who went to Oliver and swears that Sidney lived next door to John Henderson in a brick home off Kushla Dr/Ave.  But, I don't recall John attending Oliver.  Was he a Lisbon guy?

I guess it's possible that Sidney's family may have moved during his elementary school years.  So, he could've attended Oliver for a few years and T. L. Marsalis for the remainder, or vice versa.

Donnie & I were talking last night and we believe Sidney went to TL Marsalis.  Back then it went thru 7th.  Donnie is pretty sure Sidney was there.  That's probably why I didn't know Donnie, Sidney, McGee & others until 8th grade at Zumwalt.

So sad to learn of Sydney's passing. He was such a kind young man when we were at Zumwalt and SOC. Also sorry to hear about Beverly. Prayers for both families.

BTW - Ada, regarding those 'Early Days' pix, 2nd row, 2nd from left, the caption says: "Boys from Ada Ann's 5th grade class" - what school was that? [cool]

So sorry to hear of Sidney’s passing. His name came up recently in conversation. We will keep him and his family in our thoughts and prayers.
I just learned that ‘65 Socite , Beverly Duvall Haas, passed away on Thursday. I remember her well. She handled our Kingsbridge home purchase. Our thoughts and prayers extend to her family.

James - Seems like I've known Sidney forever, but I couldn't say for sure if he went to Oliver with us or not.

If you check the SOC '66 Photos, 'Early Days' link, the 2nd pic on the top row is our Class 6A.  I don't see anyone who resembles Sidney, but it's not very clear and some of the students faces are hidden.

Also, I think you're the 1st guy, 1st row, on the left.  I recognize about 2/3 of the others, but you and anyone else with more pix and rosters will have to help fill-in the blanks.

I know James, it is a very sad note losing Sidney.  I know he didn't go to Lisbon, I was thinking TL Marsalis??  Or maybe it was Clair Oliver like you said.  Someone will see this and know for sure and let us know.

Belated Happy Birthday to The Man Gary Dagley. Many many good times when you run with Gary.
On a sad note was so sad to hear of Sidney’s passing. We knew he was having difficulties and suffering which is no longer a problem. A good friend for many years. Where did he go to elementary school? Clara Oliver?
