Comments: SJM...I agree, Bill could have been anything he wanted. At Zumwalt he was National Honor Society...really smart...and in Football, Basketball and Baseball he was good. I agree on football...but I also thought he was the best white guy I ever saw shoot a basketball until I saw Larry Bird. Bill had every shot. Really sad. And as for me...well I might have been a Clyde Barrow had I been able to find me a Bonnie...but no such luck...I found a Nun and married her...so you Baptist women have noting on Kathy...she still to this day says a complete Rosary before we go to sleep...praying for me I'm sure...LOL. Asking God to have me die quickly so she can have the money...all to herself.
Comments: J.D., don't you think Bill was the Mike Livingston of our class? The guy was a gifted athlete, boy he could be funny in a huddle. Such a waste of talent, should have played Div. 1 football. Speaking of flashlights, you were always in the middle of trouble. Nothing bad, just kid stuff. You should have been a Bank Robber, a rich one.
Comments: J.D., Don went to Kimball, big offensive tackle. I think he went to Texas Tech with Bay Watch Buddy Capps. Bovie and I are going to play golf with Buddy and Mike Logan this week. I can't wait to see the guy. He also had a smirky smile, like a cat that just left the bird cage. We will ease their folding money out of their wallets. I will call you from the course.
Comments: Did I miss something earlier? I thought Don Darnell went to Kimball. I spent many years with Don in the Boy Scouts, his Dad was our Scout Master.
Comments: McGee, you brought up a name I hadn't heard in years...but always wondered what happened to him...Bill Roberts...one lost sole after his parents divorced...was never the same. Anyone know...or have any news? I heard once that he went to prison...but could never confirm...and don't want anyone to think it is true unless we have confirmation. That is not and would not be fair.
Comments: Jr. Hi. Friday nights at the Crest theater...wow...25 cents to get in...never saw an entire movie...I wear glasses today because of the ushers shinning that stupid flashlight in my face. I always thought they were voyeurs because they wanted to watch... Our big treat as kids was going to the Wyatts Cafeteria on Sundays after Church...I thought it was in Wynnewood...can't remember. But do remember Kips on Sat night after football games...boy the food was bad. McGee, I was out thrown out once a month...let let the girl stay...once for a fight...man I almost forgot what it was like. Earlene, Eileen...one of the majorettes...left and went to Samuel's after Zumwalt. Facing the screen...Zumwalt on the left...Holmes on the right...don't remember many Storey kids. McGee, do you remember the location of the choice seats...they were always against the wall so no one could watch your moves...obviously you had more than me...LOL Tried several times to date you ladies from Holmes sitting so prim and proper on the "RIGHT" side of the theater...but couldn't get connected...never went to the balcony...
Comments: Ms.McM, Ms. Perkins, Prof. Smiley: The Crest was a Friday night hangout for mostly Zumwalt kids, mixed with some from Holmes. We played the football games on Saturday. Most of us stopped by Griffs, Arthurs, Kips on the way home. The wager of the night was who was going to kicked out first, J.D., Bill Roberts, Eddie Bart. Mike Malone was always in the corner, smootching on someone. Remember the Steady Shirts? It was kool to have them shine the flash light in your face. That meant you were getting out of the Batter's box headed to first base. You went to the balcony if you were rounding first , headed to second. QB Smiley, I believe Ms. Lincoln went to Holmes, and attended Hillcrest Baptist Church. I picked her up after church many times our soph. year. Did you ladies shop at Baker's Shoes in A. Harris Mall. If so, B.C. Browning or I fitted your shoes, and took a peek ![]()
Comments: Hi Alvin, yes Carolyn's parent owned & ran Jan's bakery in Wynnwood for many yrs. I was still in touch with Carolyn for a # of yrs after SOC as she was a hairdresser & she did my hair for many yrs. Our paths crossed a few times after that but haven't seen her since the 70's. Glad to see you post & we'd love to see you at our next class get-together! Mark June 7, 2008 on your calendar & the specifics will be posted on our EVENTS pg as the date gets a little closer.
Comments: Hey, Alvin: How are you and your family doing? I have been thinking about you, hoping you are doing OK. I can only try to imagine what you and your family are going through.
Comments: Just catchung uo on the posts. Thanks guys for the sympathy cards that keep rolling in. Speaking of Jan's Bakery. Do you guys rememeber Carolyn Egner from Marsalis she worked worked at Jans. I think her parents may have ran the store or owned it. She remembered me when I was there back in the late 70s'. I may have still had hair at that time.
Comments: There was a girl that was at the Crest theater ever Friday night when we were in Junior High. I never knew her name cause every one called her by her nick-name " Lincoln" They called her that cause all the guys took a shot at her in the balcony.
Comments: You must have been dreaming. But that is a good song, do you know it? We had the same milk man when I was a kid until I moved away from home. And when my parents moved so did the milk man. I have always heard about milk man stories, but I didn't look like him. Buddy C did ya'll have him too? as you just lived 1/2 block down the street. His name was Mr. Jones.
Comments: Linda, Jan's was sold about five or six years ago. The Spanish family that bought it stayed there a couple of years, then closed. They told me they bought the receipts too. Any time I was near there I stopped and bought their party cookies. They were like short bread cookies with a swirl of icing in the middle. YUM. I know I rode on the bus to the fair, I just don't remember when. In grade school we went every year to the symphony on the bus. And we also had music classes. I'm not mentioning any names, but HE was probably the only Baptist in the balcony. Buddy, you can believe whatever I say. ![]()
Comments: OK - I've been out of pocket for most of the day and was trying to watch Oprah and catch up on the GB. Then my cat was putting his face in my water glass and trying to drink my water. Ok - girls, where are we meeting on the 8th? If we need a big car, I have a Durango; it holds more than 2 people, although 2 could sit in each others' lap. I remember those days - cramming lots into a small car, and the small cars back then weren't small like the small cars now days. OK, does that make sense? I guess the sports cars were small back then. I didn't have one. I remember walking around the corner of my street and catching the bus to downtown Dallas (with my mother) or when I was older to Fair Park to go to the Fair. Sandra, did we ride the bus to the Fair? Sandra, at Marshall's in Preston Center, I bought some stuff for my house for my meeting. Was there about 2 hours. Marshall's didn't have much Valentine's stuff. Is Jan's Bakery still in Wynnewood? If not, it hasn't been gone too many years. Sandy McGee -- how do you know Baptists were in the balcony at the Crest? Were you there too, or just watching? I remember sitting in the balcony with the new neighbor girl who moved on our street. I was scared to death. That was the only time I went anywhere with her. I think I was in the 6th or 7th grade.
Comments: Maybe this was a dream, but I could swear that David posted another song lyric before I turned the computer off last night, but didn't see it there today. Was I dreaming? It was Rick Nelson's "Traveling Man". SN, you think we're through, or is that a nice way of saying, That's enough girls.Borden's milkman. Glass bottles of milk with waxed paper seals. Drop the clothes pin in the glass bottle or use it for spin the bottle. Riding the street car on Jefferson. The big pool at Lake Cliff Park. I think it had sand for the bottom. They filled it in because of drownings. Tootie Fruitie Ice Cream
