Comments: What about "Old Red" in downtown Dallas? Wasn't it constructed b/f/1955?
Comments: Great pics of Dallas; I remember going on top of the "tall bldg" Southland Life after bible credit exams and reading all the signs "do not throw pennies off bldg, could cause car damage or person damage". That was one tall bldg. ![]() Girls, I just finished watching "Tyra" with segments about being Moms- this one lady was 60 yrs. young and just had her 4th. baby and it was 'TWINS", the oldest child is 4 yrs. Sounds to me like BLB all over again!! I'm sorry Bobby, I'm not making fun of you and your Ava, just glad it isn't me (By the way, the lady didn't mention a "Hot Tub")![]()
Comments: Sandy Lynn, the reason the old postcards are in Black & White is that prior to 1955, ALL buildings constructed in Dallas had to be black, white or some shade of gray. It wasn't until early 1956 that building codes were relaxed and construction using colored bricks was allowed. Post cards issued after that date are much more colorful.
Comments: SNL, those postcard photos of Dallas were really nostalgic. I really enjoyed looking at them. Linda, it's good to know that Gary D is alive and well and does not live underground as many of us suspected. Speaking of missing in action, where the devil is Richard? We need to hear from you, pal. Let us know you're out there.
Comments: Yesterday evening while grocery shopping at Tom Thumb in Duncanville, I saw and visited with the "lurker" Gary Dagley. Gary looked decidedly better than I did, and we had a nice conversation near the produce section. So, just wanted to let everyone know, Gary is for real, and said that he would see me at the mini in June. We both have lived in Duncanville many years and it's the first time I've ever run into him. Sandra Crowe -- hope your first day at work is wonderful. It sure is a beautiful day outside. We had to cover up our begonias outside last night so that they wouldn't get frost bite.
Comments: I picked this URL up from our sister site, 1963. Lynell Smith had it posted as a link. It is old postcard views of the magnificnet bldgs in Dallas. All are in B & W of course! Give it a look see! http://www.soultones.com/pc_dallas.html
Comments: I'd like to thank Doyle Fitzgerald for letting me know one of our beloved teachers passed away a number of yrs ago. Ms. Rae Files Still passed away on April 11, 1991, but was not on our list. Doyle remembered her passing and got the info frm the Dallas Morning News archives. I have added her name to our In Memorium pg. Below is the DMN obit: "A memorial service for Rae Files Still of Waxahachie, a former state legislator and teacher, is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Central Presbyterian Church in Waxahachie. Mrs. Still, who served as chairwoman of the House Commission on Education, spent five terms in the Texas House after her election in 1940. In 1956, she received the Texas State Teachers Association Award for her "Outstanding Service for the Improvement of Public Education as a legislator, Classroom Teacher and Professional Leader.' She also wrote The Gilmer-Aikin Bills, A Study in the Legislative Process, which has been used as a text and reference in universities across the nation. Mrs. Still is survived by several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Forest Still, died in 1956."
Comments: Another suggestion for GNO, House of Blues.
Comments: I went back into my archives & pulled out the GNO pics from 2005 I had to remove when we ran out of room. I've reposted them on the GNO pg. I also posted the one pic we were able to get at Lone Star Park! All of the GNO pics are shown in order with the most current first and then going all the way back to the first one in Feb 2005! Enjoy! Hey all you Grandma & Grandpas . . . please send me some Grandone pics!!! My cupboard is bare & I know you got pics just waiting to be shown!!
Comments: Carol C..you looked great when I saw you last
Comments: Carol---I still get goose bumps remembering the beautiful sounds of our choir in my head. Mr. Watkins managed to blend all of our voices into a heavenly choir. It was like a group prayer. I ran into him when I was at UT Austin. He was getting a PhD in Music. Carol's right Jack! Never understood why you left. You could really sing. Sandy---I hope I can make it! I don't know about flying these days.
Comments: Well, now I'm not completely positive about the date of my own birthday! (It is the 10th - but thanks for 3 days' worth of good wishes!) My manager further confused the issue by sending an E-mail to everyone in our division, announcing my birthday and including a list of "other significant events" that occurred in the year of my birth - 1928! After receiving several notices concerning his mistake, he sheepishly sent a second list for the correct year. That list ended with this little-known "occurrence" - 2008 minus 60 is in fact found to be 1948, not 1928 as previously theorized. I thought the whole thing was pretty funny. After all, while I may not be the best-looking 60-year-old in the bunch, I'm "fer dang sure" the best-looking 80-year-old! Hi, Annette! We did have fun in choir, didn't we? (Jack, you shouldn't have quit.) Do you remember when we hosted the other Oak Cliff choirs during our senior year? Each choir performed, and we were the only one to receive a standing ovation! That was pretty cool! ...and I probably shouldn't get started on politics! I'm going to the Truman Presidential Library on Sunday to see a special exhibit about Truman and the founding of Israel. Love him or hate him - he was a leader. Hi, James! I'm pretty sure that Mr. Lintz never threw his baton at me. I recall being "teacher's pet", at least in the ninth grade. The fact that I played the clarinet (his instrument of choice) might have had something to do with that. (Oh, stop being so modest, Carol. It was just that you were so darn sweet!) ;-) I'm glad that everyone made it through the storms relatively OK. KRL, I laughed at your story about Bobby. When I lived in OKC, I would be sure to have my purse in hand during storms so "they could identify the body". ...as if that purse would still have been in my hands after "the big one" hit! Lots more to say, but I'm going home. See you next week. Love, Carol
Comments: The suspecious thing is him dressed in his jeans and me still in my pj's. I asked him if he was going to wake me up and he said that if it was getting worse he would! You guys are just so considerate!!!! ![]() ![]() Jack - saw your nephew the other day - he had a burn spot on his ear from a fire he had been at. It is ok now (saw him again yesterday). He said hi ![]()
Comments: Hey Annette, Haven't heard you say yet if you & Sid are planning to attend our get-together in June??!! Sure hope so as we hardly got to see you at the reunion since you could only be there on Fri night. Hope ya'll are getting settled into your new digs.
Comments: I got Peggy's contact info from her sister, but she never responded to my inquires. I had fun in chior too, until Mr Watkins took over. |
