Memo To DeSoto Sandy:

Hey, everyone cared what kind of cars were being driven since most of us didn't even own a car. Gary B. and his cars were envied.

By the time he was a Senior he may not have been as sweet and funny as you recall. Like the time in 1962 when Gary, me, Jerry Melton, Charlie Howarth, and John Wilkerson were out cruising around in Jerry's car.

Gary was riding shotgun and as we drove by Arthur's restaurant on Lancaster, Gary leans out the window and yells "[well, I can't repeat it here]" to a gang of about 8 guys milling about in the parking lot.

We take off, and the guys at Arthur's pile into a couple of cars and chase us down and pull us over near Glendale. We can't even get out of the car for all the fists flying in to the interior of the car through the four windows.

Jerry, the poor innocent driver, had his glasses smashed before he could even apologize for Gary's stupid behavior. To make matters worse, the ones who chased us down were all SOC guys who thought we were a carload of boys from another school.

Ah, childhood memories.

Sally, This is copied from a email that was sent to me by the New York down town Alliance. When you go to battery Park to sign
the Beam, will you put my name on it too.

September 11 Tribute - New Yorkers Invited to

Sign the Beam and be a Part of History

As part of last year's National Tour, the National September 11 Memorial & Museum brought to 25 U.S. cities some of the steel beams which will be used in the construction of the Memorial, and invited visitors to sign them. Tens of thousands of ordinary Americans participated by leaving their mark on the Memorial.

This opportunity is now of course, being extended to New Yorkers to come sign the beam in Battery Park on September 10 and 11 from 10am to 7pm. The beam will be located at the north end of Battery Park, on Battery Place between Greenwich and Washington Street.

An opening ceremony will be held on September 10th at 10am.

This is a unique opportunity for New Yorkers to remember and reflect as we near the seventh anniversary of September 11th.

JS, as always, you find interesting things about most anyone mentioned.  I didn't know anything about Gary Bishop except he looked an awful lot like his younger bro Dennis back in the old days.  Apparently talent runs in their family.  When I first saw the photo. . . I thought Gary was Dennis & the other guy was Don Radke!!  But not so.   I'll be glad when I can retire and have time to do fun things like surf the Net or go on a Miata Roundup!!  Maybe one of these yrs!

Everyone be sure to look at the Party invite posted on the EVENTS pg.

JS- you should be back from your trip by Nov 1.

SNL, the older of the two brothers featured in your Misc Pic, was in the Class of '62. He was a rowdy and somewhat spoiled kid who seemed to always have a nice sports car (via his Dad's biz).

After SOC he married classmate and former cheerleader Verona Welborn, a triplet (Verona, Ramona, & Robert).

He went on to become a very talented photographer and from '95 thru '04 was on the faculty at Collin County Community College as a photography instructor. He never officially obtained a degree (which I don't think was a secret), and around 2004 CCCCD cracked down on such a requirement and he was forced out. Here is an assessment from one of his students:

Around 2005, Sandy, he paired up with our mutual friend Tenpenny to venture into the Dallas rehab real estate frey and partnered on a couple of projects. Not sure what he is up to now?

RN...you can float...I thought you and Mr. Arnold were on Aircraft Carrier's...guess I was incorrect...but what's new!

Toni, I know you won't convert but it is nice to see you like our VP...I believe she would be a great President as well...only time will tell. But it is very difficult to see you giving your vote for those 2 guys...one very intelligent but clueless without his backups...and the other sits in the hot tub with Mao and Stalin...but then Mao's been dead for some time as has Mr Stalin...and so is Mr. Biden...at least his politics...remain so far left that a right turn falls off the map.

But we love you anyway Toni...you're a great friend...my prayers go the same way...take care.

Hello all. Sarah and I took the plunge and started our internet business. We're still working at our full time jobs until we can get this off and running. Guess this comes at a good time since the company I work for "merged" with our competitor for the last 30 years. Varsity is located in Memphis and has already closed complete departments in our Garland office.

In about 6 months the total operation will be in Memphis and we are not invited to visit them.

We covet your prayers as we start our business. Normally takes about 2-3 years to make it profitable for us to devote full time with a staff. Visit us at www.elainerussellsafety.com  We will be adding more safety products for kids to it as well.

JS, I was thinking more of voting for Barack, and writing in Sarah as his VP.  Two very articulate, albeit inexperienced go-getters. Is that legal?

Say, Richard ...

What if we put Palin at the top of the ticket and run John Sidney McBush as the VeePee?

Would probably drag in more net votes that way and he could play Palin Puppetmaster behind the scenes.

Of course, that still leaves us with the problem of what to do if the puppetmaster becomes ill, senile, or worse?

don't get too worked up....I just said I like her.....nothing about "coming over" or "the good side"!    Our choices are not anything to write home about!

Jack, regarding your "coming over" thoughts. I like Sarah, but not John.  I like Obama, but not Joe.  It's very perplexing this time around.  A life-long Republican switching at this late date due to ol' George.

Well, the workers returned this morning!!  Now the drawers and doors are going in and the cabinets/vanity in the bath are being installed.  Man it's loud in here, especially when that compressor kicks in!!!    Yikes!   Of course there are a few minor problems they will have to correct....  like one of the drawers for the kitchen is painted the wrong color!  They thought it was a vanity drawer instead of a kitchen drawer!  Also, doors for cabinet over  microwave are too small, will have to make new ones.  But by the end of the week it should be looking good.

I t/w Rhonda Erwin @ Double Tree tda & the next Get-Together will be held on November 1, 2008 at The Double Tree Hotel on Luna Rd.  It's the same place as the last 3 get-togethers and it will be from 2:00 to 6:00pm.  I'll post the invitation on EVENTS pg tonight.  And Yes, they'll still give us the $79 per nite rate for those who want to stay there.  You must call Rhonda to get the $79 rate.  Her direct # is 214-496-2771.  If it's a long distance call for you, email her at Rhonda.Erwin@Hilton.com and she will call you back.  She will need a cr cd to make the reservation.  So circle Nov 1 and start making plans to be with us!!
