happy jack- well said. i would like to say i was never a guest of the state thanks to a little lady i married in the 70's. when i take the wheel i steer out of bounds. life can go in many directions, the older you get the easier it is to open the right door or you know which door you should open

Dale- good story on Mr Pitts. Mr Pitt's dad and my parents did bizzness together, his uncle was my freshman coach at Tech. a ballpark complex was named after his uncle in Lubbock. he was a legend in Lubbock. my mom talked about how good a man, Mr Pitts was in her last days of life at 86. i guess one of the most important things as a teacher or administrator is not to give up on Johnny but to keep pushing Johnny to meet Johnny's potential in life. this is were the rubber meets the road in a teachers worth. Dr Pitts A+. i now you excelled in this area you had too much back ground to pull from as being a " bad kid" i bet Yuvonne still monitor ur wheel today from a O/B's life. (dale i know u know what O/B stands for from experience)

Well, if living this long hasn't taught me anything else, it has taught me that life is going to take you places you never thought of going, things will happen you never imagined and you are never really in control. That line in the Christmas song about "if the fates allow" rings very true.  Life seems to be a ride where, every once in a while you get to steer for a short time.  I'm happy that there are not near as many of us in jail as I thought there would be!!!
Toni; in Cub Pack 114 was Gary Dagley, Larry Ritcher, David Lawerance, Eddie Witherspoon, a couple of other names that I can't tune in right now and me. I hope Gary will fill in those missing names.

Dale - Great story regarding Mr. Pitts.  I'll be he had you in red-faced shock & the audience rolling in the aisles - a Kodak moment!

Dale, I think most of us had that same "basic observation".  I'm fairly convinced Yuvonne is the one that kept you motivated and in line......fair statement?

In reality is nice to be able to observe how the 17 year olds we knew back when have come such a long way and turned out to be pretty good folks.

Buddy,
Every year there is a big convention for school administrators and school board members. ( TASA/TASB) One year, in San Antonio, I was asked to give a one hour presentation on how school districts should prepare for the  TEA inspection visit (DEC). My district had the pleasure of such a visit the previous year and received exemplary ratings so I was asked to address about 1200 people that were scheduled for the following year. After my presentation there was a Q/A session with people stepping up to the microphone out in the audience. A short, graying man stepped up to the mike and said " I just have one question..... Do you remember me busting your backside a few years back at SOC ??? "  It was Mr. Pitts. After my session was over he came up to the stage and we talked through the next session. His basic observation was something like " I never expected you to finish high school much less be working in the school business." After that , we would see him almost every year and visit about the good ol' days in education. He is a great guy.

Mr. Pitts must have been in his 20's when he was at SOC.

Kim, that was very thoughtful and sweet what you posted about your parents.  I am sure they are very proud of you to.
Hey, Gary D.

I would love to pull the covers over my head and go back to sleep this morning.  It's too cold!

Buddy - Mr. Pitts had quite an arm.  Unfortunately, he used it to light-up my a** a few times also.  I wasn't such a bad kid back then, but would get occasional detentions.  Prob was, us D. E. students had to work during the afternoons & couldn't stay after school.  So, Mr. Pitts got to burn 'em off - sorta like having butt-cheek skin grafted onto your slacks, which were part of the dress code for working at Bond's Clothing.

Toni/JS - I was in BSA, pack/troop 696, along with Dickey Beasley (his dad was our Scoutmaster), Mike Dunn, Ron Barker - can't recall the others at the moment - help, guys!  We camped at Woodland Springs off Loop 12, just past Riverlake Country Club - remember the flood?

Toni, I was a Cub Scout, but dropped out afterwards. Too much pressure in the Boy Scouts to go after all those merit badges.

Here is a photo circa 1955 of a meeting of Den 2 in a backyard on Brownlee. That's me on the far left:

SNL/DL....I was disappointed with Boston Legal....but it appears the producers left the show open for yet another a spin-off.   Thanks for the update on the Fugates.  They continue to be in our thoughts and prayers every day.  Any updates from Virginia on Don Gaines?

How many of you guys were cub/boy scouts?  Any Eagle Scouts?

SNL - Appreciate the update & we continue to pray for the Fugates, as well as all our recovering classmates, plus their folks & families.

Kimberly - Thanks for the note regarding Dad & Mom Dagley.  Please ask your dad to use the keyboard more often, while otherwise lurking, even if he has to pose with your name!

What a nice thing to say about your "old man", Kimberly. Does he hold the mortgage on your house?? Wonder what happened?  I thought the state ban Gary from having children. Can't remember the details. You think Gary does??? To a great Cub Scout, the pride of the pack, Gary. I know Deanna should get most of the credit.

Some times "No News" is not necessarily "Good News".  The search continues for Brandon.  Donnie & Barb and Michael have gone back to work.  It is hard for them to say the least.  But we all need to pray each day for Brandon to be found so this family can get closure and start the next phase . . . healing.  God Bless and know that I, and your SOC friends, love you!
