Dale, apparently the cold weather gives you ample time to "think"!  Do you try these out on Yuvonne first or has she told you, "Go to the GB and leave me alone, I don't want to hear it".     BTW, I loved the story abt Mr. Pitts!!  That's got to be a once-in-a-lifetime moment!!

Jack, . yes it's fixed. I fixed it myself. It was very painful listening to that buzzer going off
every time I made a right turn.
You are talking about my right turn problem
in my truck aren't you.
If you're asking about the plugged up faucet problem, DR plumber did a procedure that
took care of that. It was VERY uncomfortable
since I was awake at the time. I am fine now and improving daily. DR said I will be like an 18 year old in 6 to 8 weeks. I said how can that be? It took me 60 years to get this old!

Memo To Dale Smiley:

Dr. Kiester called and said you'd missed the last two meetings of PA (Punsters Anonymous). It is sadly evident that you are once again backsliding.

Call me if you need a ride to next week's session. Let me know in advance if you'll still require a source of drug-free urine.

You are right, Toni. Scouting was,and I hope still is, a great program. Gave guidance to alot of guys who would not have other wise had any. Taught us many lessons about working and getting along together and was a good time while doing it.
Streaker RW, how you doing now? Any changes you can talk about?? At this point if you could change, would you still have it done?? Any follow-up??

Yesterday it was 76 degrees in Conroe. Today the high has been 35 degrees. Early this morning we had sleet, almost unheard of down here. Reminds me of the Russian couple, Rudolf and Natasha Verkoski, sitting around their small home on a cold winter evening. They heard a sound on the roof and Rudolf says" Well, its starting to rain". Natasha says " sounds like sleet to me" To which he responds " No, Rudolf "The Red" knows rain, dear!

As we have learned, many of our impressions and opinions of the people we knew in the Sixties was flawed. Of course, during the years we have all changed somewhat too. I thought Mr Artman was a great guy and was disappointed when he was not made principal at SOC. Having Mr. Kelsey at Zumwalt I was not pleased when he came to SOC. I always felt he and Mr Pitts were angry at the whole student body. I refered to them as Grumpy and Grumpy II.  Other than deleting a couple of un-deserved detentions, my only real dealing with Mr. Pitts was because of the Bobby Egan show. I was "out of class" (study hall) on a ROTC pass and "unaccounted for" when the boom went off. Mr. Pitts on again off again interrogations really irritated me. Oh, when I quit Concert Choir, he called me in to inquire as to why.  He didn't seem to care that I thought Mr Watkins (who I had had for an English class) couldn't teach a dog to lay down or a canary to sing, much less run a choir. Well, he asked me!

Shortcake,
Congrats on your daughters accomplishments in education. The Apple Award, if you will excuse a poor pun, is the real plum in our field. If you count all of the educators in the field and consider those selected it is obvious they are the very TOP educators. WOW !
Yes, there was a time when I had one foot in each camp. And, yes, Yuvonne deserves a lot of credit for which foot I lifted.  buddy, I still get out beyond the white sticks into O/B land but today it is usually due to an errant draw or slice.
Once when I was talking with Dr. Pitts, while he was still associated with DISD, I shared with him that some of those mean boys at SOC would refer to him as "Hairy Arm". (Pitts) He shocked me when he told me he and Mr. Kelsey had nick-names for some of us students too. I remember that just before he administered the "Board of Education" he would take a practice swing and say " It's all in the wrist" Then it was time to clench up.

Smiley-My youngest daughter just received the apple award for teachers from the Mesquite ISD last month.  We went to the presentation.  It was absolutely great along with her speech thanking us and her friends for standing behind her all these years.  Of course, you don't realize how many years your children have been teaching until they are given some kind of an award like this.

JS/DL/Happy Jack, scouting does build character no matter what the nay-sayers spout.  I was in the Brownies and Girl Scouts.  I was a cub-scout den leader, an adult Boy Scout leader, and Circle Ten Council's first female Assistant Scoutmaster (and no, they don't call it Scoutmistress!)....and I'm still a character...uh, I mean of character!!  My son became an Eagle Scout and he has proudly posted that achievement on his resume as an adult, and he's convinced that helped him come as far as he has in the legal field and in the oil and gas business.   No doubt, there are countless upstanding men and women who had scouting in their lives.  Unforturnately, according to my son, scouting might be on the down-slide because the leaders don't have time to lead.  How sad!   JS, loved the picture!!

I still have my Cub Scout uniform with all the patches on it. Mom got tired of saving it and gave it to me to keep safe. Needless to say it no longer fits but my Army uniform does, it's just a little bit tight around the middle.

Budman & Smiley:

Mr. Pitts, Mr. Pitts, Mr. Pitts...how well I remember his right hand and how quick and strong it was with that extra piece of wood he held at the time of our meetings.

Unlike Kelsey, who talked with me and actually kept me out of Jail several times, Pitts always seemed to be ready to NAIL your a**, then ask questions...but I do remember him as a pretty good man.

Does anyone know his age when we were in school...they all looked old to me!

I hope Pitts did not alter your favorable impression of me Budman...??? LOL!!!

Update on Don Gaines - - Charles s/w Virginia this morning & they are going to move Don to a different rm for the rest of the week.  Next wk they will move him from the hospital to a facility with 24 hr care.  He still can't eat & has a feeding tube, but there is a little improvement & he is now recognizing people.  We need to continue to pray for his recovery!
