Jack, I might be crazy but I would never go into water during 17 degree weather. The most painful part of earning that badge was having to get out of my semi-warm sleeping bag to go to the latrine in the middle of the night. I seriously considered just going where I lay since it was so painfully cold. But then I reasoned that although I would be briefly warmer, the dampness would turn quickly to freezing and I would be worse off at that point. And as if that wasn't bad enough, I had to wait in line when I got to the latrine!

I thought the Polar Bear patch was something you got from sitting bare bottomed on  ice. Or was it swimming in icy water? With a special  STAR if it was skinny dipping??!!

Happy Birthday, Gary...hope it is a good one!  I am in FL, but just talked to Joe.  We have trees down all over the yard....none hit the house or the longhorn steer....thank heavens!  We have no electricity, so he hooked up the generator.  It will probably be days before everyone is back in service.  I go home tomorrow

Jack, as much as I dislike Bush, I'd probably give him a pass on snow storms.  Although, with his self-proclaimed insider connections directly with God, you'd think he would speak to Him on their behalf and warm up the Big Easy.

As all the birds were passing by on their way south this morning, one of them gave me a tip.  Today is Gary D's Birthday!!!  Happy Birthday Gary!!!!  We go way back to Lisbon, Zumwalt & then SOC.  Hope it's a good one...enjoy!!!

Don't know if you heard that New Orleans got 8 inches of snow. New Orleans leaders are blaming the Bush Administration for allowing the snow to fall and FEMA for not having snow plows available to clear the streets. And they are requesting federal money to buy snow removal equipment, sand trucks and sand, buildings to store said equipment and to pay overtime!!
