Dale; its me!! Don't know why the auto didn't fill in my name, as usual.
Sally, I couldn't think of "If I had a Boat". I kept thinking, I'd ride my pony on my boat. That and "That's right, you're not from Texas", two of my favorite songs. I like most all of his songs and the big band.

Sally, thanks for the YouTube videos tip on Lyle. Why didn't I think of that? I did check them out and I'll report:

1. He certainly has an idiosyncratic style and

2. These days he's wearing his hair somewhat shorter

A little late but. . .
Lyle Lovett wrote "That's right, you're not from Texas" and two of my favorites, "If I had a boat" and "The Porch Song' with Robert Earl Keen.  He and REK are my two favorite Texan song writers!  The songs are on youtube. You Texans must know these, right?

Good Golly Dale - I wish you were at least 100 miles closer & Buddy & I would be over there to pick up that little beauty!!  I am t/w a guy on Craig' List abt his Bell & Howell 16MM that he wants to sell. It needs a belt for the drive on the rewind wheel.  Tonight I'm gng to search the Internet for parts on that model to see if we can fix it.  He says everything else works & in good condition.  He lives near Arlington.  It is hard to find parts for some of these models, but if I do, I think we'll buy it frm him & fix the belt drive.  He's selling it cheap!  Thank you Dale & if this purchase falls thru I may be asking for directions to Conroe!  Although it appears I may have to fight JS over the projector!

Some of these places were interesting.  One site sells completely refurbished 16MM projectors for a mere $495 plus shipping!  That is a bit over our budget!  Other places will rent one to you for $100 a day.  Also over our budget since we need it for several weeks!  And BTW Dale, I don't need any films to watch. . .   I have about 100 reels in my ofc.  That's why we need the projector for more than a few days!!

Who is J?
I bought the projector at a school auction (receipt duly filed). The bulb works well right now but must be pretty old cause I have had it for a long time. I do not have a spare bulb but we were still ordering them for use when I retired 7 years ago. I'm fairly sure bulbs can be found with little trouble.
You will have to contact John S. about any "foreign Films" for loan but I do have some ACC football films I could send from the late 60's.
I can't believe you (whoever you are) remember that shop film. I remember as if it was yesterday the guy cutting off his thumb on the joiner and the story building up to where the sloppy guy on the table saw doesn't use the guard and we see the 2x4 sailing through the air and hitting the little guy pulling the wood trailer in the stomach. If you remember the following shots showed the intestines and other organs oozing out and the blood coming from his mouth. VERY graphic for a black and white film for those days. I was afraid to go in the woodshop after that film, and then our woodshop teacher had his thumb cut off to add to the mahem. Even as scary as that film was I'm told it pailed by comparison to the one the girls had to watch named "Mary becomes a woman"

Dale, what are the odds that the projector says Sarah Zumwalt on it?? Good to know it is in working order, does the bulb light up too? Do you have a spare?? Can we get the "imported" films for it too?? Do you have a copy of that "shop" film from Zumwalt that we all had to watch before taking the required shop classes??

I went to my music history expert (D. Smiley) to see if he could tell me the name of even ONE hit song affiliated with Lyle Lovett. I am informed that Lyle wrote the following high energy song which went to #7 on the U.S. charts in 1989. Marvin Young (aka Young MC) handles the main vocals while Tondelayo Breckenridge manages the background "yeah, uh-huh, uh-huhs":

[sidebar to Smiley: don't be too quick to give up the 16mm projector. To do so will put a crimp in our Thursday night poker, cigar, "vintage" movie nights]

Sandy,
I have a 16 mm projector (Kodak). Seems to be in perfect working order. You may borrow it if you like.

Thanks Donnie & Tanya for the two leads, I'm checking both of them out.  I originally wanted to borrow or rent one, but finding it almost impossible to find.  Buying a refurbished one may be our best option! .  Even some of the ones being sold don't work and it is very difficult to find parts! I'll let you know what kind of success I have.

Sandy I put this info on the 63 and 65 sites for you but thought you may see it quicker in here:  Re:  16 mm projectors, I googled 16 mm projectors for sale and this is one that came up, but there are several more listed, refurbished and can be delivered within 90 days.  This is one of them:  http://www.k3camera.com/k3/eiki-16mm-projector.php

Hey, Buddy: Love those absentee notes from Bovie and McGee. I didn't know Richard Leaderer's book "Anguished English" was out way back then. haha! It is full of those things that he has collected for many years. If you can find a copy, buy it. It is a real knee slapper.

Now, McGee, Miss Hatchet-face...I mean Hatcher...is one person I personally avoided all through school. My brother told me stories about her when he was at SOC. When I got there and saw her, I always wondered where she parked her broom.

Yeah, I was a bad boy. Got kicked out of band for about a month (our junior year) because I made a rude comment to a girl (the year before). She was the one being rude. She was trying to take off my ROTC uniform in the hall by our lockers. Had the hallway not been full of people between classes, I might have liked it. haha!  And the rock throwing was with Sam Smith in the first grade at W.W. Bushman. We were partners in crime that year.

Sandy, I also have been looking for a 16 MM projector probably for the same reason. I can't find one.

Sandy, I don't know when you need it, but eBay is always a good place to look.  If you're in a big hurry, eBay probably isn't a good option.
