Comments: Ladies & Gentlemen: Since I made my comment about the close relationships we have maintained over the years and why I believe it has happened, I made comment about several north side areas of Dallas. I never indicated that I thought they were snooty...and never used those words. I am sorry if some people assumed those were my intentions...I know some of those people from the 60's and very few even know where the others are living and or if they are alive or dead. But will advise you that there were not that many really rich people...just appearances...sorry if my connotations were misunderstood. I was simply using those areas to indicate what we might be like today if that is where we grew up...never knowing where each other are living...now maybe some of us don't care and that's alright too...but there is a very large group that apparently do care...hence this group on the GB and at the mini's. See everyone in June!
Comments: John, I have always wondered, how many counties is Houston in? I know Houston spills outside of Harris county. What soap and wax do you use in the Mitia??
Comments: Ahem, Richard. The Woodlands are NOT in Houston ... not even in the same County. Although the citizens here rely heavily on Houston for employment, the cultural arts, and domestic and yard labor. I did wash and wax my Miata last week. Almost broke a nail.
Comments: Sam, the Litchford's daughter Laura taught at HPHS for a number of years before moving to Houston...loved it there. I'm glad to hear those HP folks are...well, folksy. Just like the Newport Beach crowd...down to earth friendly folks, really. Some of them even wash their own Aston-Martins. And you'd be surprise at the OC housewives that actually polish their own diamonds; real domestic types. I suspect you' d find the same salt of the earth types in The Woods (Woodlands?) in Houston.
Comments: REMEMBER THE ALAMO!!! Happy March 6th.
Comments: Following up on some sadder news previously mentioned - David Hamm sent me the obit for his older brother, Johnnie, from SOC '64, who died of congestive heart failure on 2/27:
http://www.legacy.com/insidebayarea/DeathNotices.asp?Page=LifeStory&PersonID=124890005 David & I joined the Coast Guard together, after Johnnie 'recruited' us while he was home on leave in '65-66. Johnnie was stationed on a CG cutter (ship) in Alameda, CA, & met his wife there. They attended the ceremony when David & I graduated from CG bootcamp, also on the same base in Alameda, & treated us to a home-cooked supper that night. Johnnie was discharged around '68 & remained out there, becoming another ‘displaced Texan’. Kathy & I send our sincere condolences to David & his family during this very sad time as they cope with Johnnie's passing.
Comments: Kathy, glad you're planning to attend our get-together in June!! Hope many others will do the same. David-the-music-man Doc, really hope you & Shirley will come again. Last year we lost 4 dear classmates, don't pass up this chance to see your friends!! We never know what tomorrow may bring. On a lighter note, Jacquielynn Floyd in the Dallas Morning News had a great nostalgia article this morning. It's in the Metro section. She talks about things she misses! Like Bronco Bowl, Icky Twerp, etc! Made me start thinking of all the many things I miss about growing up in Oak Cliff. Each of us and our little group that we hung out with had different top 10 things we did and places we loved to go. I'm asking each of you to tell us your TOP 10 things you have great memories of from your youth!! We can talk about it here, but Please send me an email with your TOP 10. No words needed, just a TOP 10 List. I will collect all of them and create a master list. I'll have it typed up and we can distribute and talk about it at the get-together. I bet we get a lot of different things because each grade sch, Jr High and area had specific things. So C'mon gang, list your Top 10 here and then send me via email your list!!! What size font shall I type it in? 14? Maybe 18?? ![]()
Comments: My son, John calls me at work two nights ago at 2300, and said,Guess what, Dad? The Cowboys just released TO! I could not believe it.I get home the next morning and discovered Good Bye Graffiti, all over his SUV.Gutsi move, Jerry! Someone will have to step up.Maybe there is something going on we don't know about yet.WOW!
Comments: Snooty people in Highland Park? Maybe back in the 50's or 60's, but I can tell you that is not the case now. Our daughter Marsha,son-in-law Jeff and grand kids live in University Park. For the past 6 years, Marsha and Jeff both teach and tutor at HPHS. Jeff has been an assistant head coach for the football team. They have never been happier to be there. We have met hundreds of parents, teachers and coaches and find they are the most courteous and caring people Sarah and I have had the pleasure of meeting. The kids are extraordinary and extremely focused on everything they do. Contrary to popular belief, not even half of the residents are multi-millionaires. Most families have parents that both work just for the privilege of living there. No place is a perfect utopia, but we are proud of this part of Dallas where our kids love and live and pray our grand kids will graduate from HPHS.
Comments: JD, I can agree with you on the comments you made about our class from Oak Cliff compared to Highland Park classes. We have fun and enjoy one another. My wife graduated from Highland Park in '67. We've gone to a few of her reunions. The last one, we vowed never to return. They were snotty and extremely boring. Not one bit of the close intimacy our class enjoys. Other classes and schools could learn a lesson on how to have a great reunion by observing our class.
Comments: Happy Jack...NM was wonderful for the brief visit. Absolutely loved taking the grandkids on adventures in the mountains. Unfortunately, business wasn't good and I couldn't afford to be on a permanent vacation! Not yet! Look forward to seeing everyone in June.
Comments: Now that T.O. Owens is gone, what do I do with all this popcorn?
Comments: Happy Jack, you should call Hank Haney. I thought Cold Cash Dagley and the Botox Kid had unique swings, until I watched Haney work with Charles Barkley on the golf channel. I understand why Tiger Woods has him as his coach. |
