Comments: SLN; I have a suggestion for the contest. I think you should only be able to win once. Lets spread the wins around!!
Comments: Just got in from a couple of days in the Kilgore/Longview area where we attended the graduating ceremony for White Oak High School and Dru's rowdy nephew Taylor Tarr. On the way home today, we made an out-of-the-way detour toward Canton to drop in on Bob Clifton's Peach Orchard on Hwy 19. We lined up to get some peaches and peach ice cream - business was booming due to the big Canton weekend thing. Bob told me that a SOC girl had come through yesterday and mentioned she and I were hooking up in a couple of weeks. I told him I didn't recall any upcoming rendezvous with Betty Gibbs. He said "Her name wasn't Betty ... It was Karen ... Karen Reynolds?". Ohhh ... THAT SOC girl, I confirmed. Small world. ps - if you chat with Clifton, don't refer to his place as a "peach grove". He'll go all street-rat crazy on you. It is a peach "orchard"
Comments: Thank you for your comments about Sophie...she will be here June 20, so I am excited. KMD, I told Judea and Joe that she is already spoken for. If Luke is as attractive as his grandmother, he will really be a looker! I am doing better each day....drove yesterday for the first time since surgery. Was there a shoe store in CC shopping center? Or was the foot xray machine in Levines? Buddy, glad your daughter and baby are okay....scary. Sandy S, isn't it nice to finally see spring? Sally, NYC must really be in full bloom.
Comments: The name of the BBQ place was Charlies Bar-B-Que.
Comments: Pool Guy - Should we swing by Dillards to get some 'Great White' gear to stand in your midst while bidding? If you're hoping to make that 300-yd shot with any confidence, I'll have to bring along the M-79 also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M79_grenade_launcher
Comments: Ronney/CC Rat - I was thinking the store was Levines, but it could've been the next one down. I had to buy a quick replacement for a torn shirt, once upon a time, and they were closest. I also recall they & many other clothing / dept stores of the time used to 'zing' the customer's money & return change along an overhead wire to/from the cashier's office. I could never jump high enuf! ![]() Buddy - That's great news regarding your daughter & grandbaby; even better that you didn't have to hire an 'ambulance chaser'!
Comments: For those of us who remember Motts, ME Moses, Pig Stand, Capps Laundry, Larry Coker, strawberry shortcake at Wyatt's and strolling the Crest, here is a bit of info.. Everyone who ever went to the Crest, especially those of us who sit on the left side remembers the tall black headed usher with the big flashlight. His name was Sonny. He went to SOC and got his first job at the Crest. It became his only job as he stayed with the company who owned the theater which ultimately became UA. Sonny retired from UA 3 years ago. He now lives in Garland. Also, those of us guys who hung around the ticket booth at the Crest to gawk at the pretty blond in the booth, her name was Glenda. She was a SOC grad who started to work at the Crest at the age of 14. She married Sonny. Glenda won a typing contest while at SOC and was hired by the FBI. Five years ago Glenda retired from the FBI. She now lives in Rockwall.
Comments: My parents bought their first TV at White's by the Crest Theater. I've always thought it was funny to buy a television at an "auto" store. I must have been about 3 years old at the time. (I am one of those people who can vividly remember before I could walk or talk.) I remember standing with my mother and brother outside the store looking at the TVs in the window, as my dad purchased the television set. It had a HUGE 10-inch (or so) screen. I love memories of Cedar Crest Shopping Center. What was the name of the barbecue drive-in on the south end of the center?
Comments: The store next to the Crest Theatre was White's Auto Store.
Comments: 66er's and 67er's, if you guys are gonna bid on my golf services, do I get new clubs and bag? I might look stunning in a new Greg Norman shirt and shorts on the 1st tee. What a way to be represented, led off by a 300 yard drive.
Comments: Buddy, I was worried when I read about your daughter's accident but I am so glad to learn that she and the baby are doing well at this point. Hopefully she will get a fair and prompt resolution by the insurance company.
