Well, I think that makes it official, we are no longer a nation of laws. So the powers that be have decided that some drugs are OK, so we will not enforce the law regarding them. The previous 200 hundred years are meaningless, they will disregard any laws they don't like, since they can't repel them. Wonder what's next. Sally, if you are wondering what makes Sandy mad, its the fact that JD and I are still breathing and can form words! Yesterday you invoked morals in the discussion. I take it you propose that the federal government now become the dispenser of morals? Who's morals? Yours? Mine? The government has no morals. Morals require some kind of belief system. IMHO the federal govt should ONLY do the things that can not be accomplished by local or state govts. Secure our borders, defend against all enemies, foreign or domestic, the FAA and the national highway system. I am sure there are a few others, but you get the idea. The dept of energy is a waste of money and effort and we certainly don't need a dept of education. No govt should be a Nanny or Big Brother. Don't require me to wear a helmet to ride a bicycle,(if I rode a bicycle). Less govt is good govt!!

Richard N., those of us that spend 5 hours with Bay Watch Capps on a golf course never understand what he is mumbling about.
He missed his calling, the boy would fit in well with the Beltway folks in Washington.

JD, we always want be cautious about posting personal info on a blog like this....I keep a low profile (we never did have that conversation about my former partner of years gone by).  And I'll bet that I'm one of the few on this GB that's never tried even one doobie.

We certainly dusted off the soap boxes this weekend.  Sally, you need to learn to speak up and not hold back so much.  And I always like reading Buddy's posts as well.  Capps, I never know what you're talking about, but I like reading it.

We'll pick another subject next weekend.

I'm very sad to make this announcement, but Barney Kemp from the Class 0f 1963 has passed away.  He was a great SOCite & friend to many, including me.  Here is the note posted early this morning on 63 GB.

Name: Tanya and Gary Leverett
Country: Date: Mon Oct 19 02:26:35 2009
Comment: Dear Classmates, Brenda wanted me to let everyone know that our dear friend Barney Sonny Kemp passed away about an hour ago. He is suffering no more. There will be no funeral service as Sonny did not want that, but there will be a memorial and celebration of life for Sonny and all his friends at a later date and that will be posted in here. God bless the Kemp family.

I think our biggest problems with health care are the 2 groups who want to be in charge of running it.  Reps want the status quo, which rips a lot of people off & leaves others hanging; Dems want to throw out the entire system & have everyone depending upon the fed gov't to provide.

No one's proposing a 3rd group who would be non-partisan & take the best parts of the first 2 plans & fine-tune them with ideas from the rest of us caught in the middle of the 2 warring factions.  And, yes, let's have all politicians, staff and their families on the same plan as us, or vice versa.

It's one thing to have fair, honest, law abiding individuals in charge of caring for our nation's health & medical needs; it's another to be limited to either private industry or the federal gov't, as they are today.

Oh, yes, Sandy there is a lot of  lying and cheating everywhere.  Who would condone this?
Glad to hear hospitals are still running.  As I said it was a quick check on google to find something at both ends of the country but I must have gotten a bad example.
Hitler Stalin and Mao were hateful, hateful people.  Thank you, John, for noting their lack of smiles.
I thought we were talking health insurance.  Nothing more.  There are many wrongs to right.
guess we should go back to watching football! Most seem to agree on that.

Which one, the one for housing assistance, food stamps, child care or medicaid?  I did for all.  The forms stated that employer must fill out and sign.  I had a friend say she wouldn't do it.  Only one form had a number to call, and I did.  Most of them have casework name and ID number only, no phone no email.
