One month since our friend Richard Nance unexpectedly passed away on July 4th.  Still heartbroken and miss him every day. I know y'all do too.

Ok, it worked.  Here's a copy of what Don L. sent as an 8x10 in a very nice frame to Richard's daughter.  I'm sure they will treasure it.

Firstly, Larry I understand where you're coming from.  So many lives have been turned upside down by Covid and all the issues it brought with it.  Plans had to be changed or canceled, reunions canceled, vacations canceled, SOC get-togethers canceled, etc.  Loss of lives has been devastating.  I'm praying it will improve, but right now the virus is re-surging.  We should all be aware and take necessary precautions.

Don Lincoln, you are so diligent and thoughtful regarding our Vets.  I can only imagine what a warm and wonderful feeling it would give me to receive such a beautiful framed photo of my loved one showing his military service and the two photos.  Thank you for your service Don and for your continued caring of our Vets.  I'm going see if I can get that photo Don used for Richard to post here on our GB.

Yes, the email Richard sent to Don was funny and so like Richard.  He was telling us about his & Eddie's military service at one of our get-togethers and he had us all laughing.  I miss his photos and his interesting sense of humor.

Sammy, my condolences to Sarah on the loss of her brother, Jim. Covid has really changed our perspective on life. Don, thanks for the update concerning our friend, Richard Nance. It’s very meaningful to have such caring classmates after all these years. Nice to hear from you, Ronney. I hope you are taking very good care of yourself.

It has been a tough month, indeed. Thanks for reminding us of Richard’s humor, Don. His comments did bring a smile.
…and Don, thank you so much for all that you do to remember and honor our SOC ‘66 veterans. I’m sure that Darci and Brooke will be touched to receive the gift honoring Richard. 💕
Take care, everyone. ❤️💛🤍❤️

~Passing of Our Friend, Classmate and Fellow Vet, Richard Nance - Follow-up~

When one of our vets passes, I coordinate with Sandy to contact the family for a mailing address.  Then, we notify them to expect a package containing a framed 8 x 10 copy of the vet's slide, as it appears in the
(timer: 13:19)A sympathy card is being included with Richard's framed slide signed: “On behalf of the SOC ’66 Military Veterans”.

Also, in the package being sent to his daughters, is a copy of an e-mail reply he sent in early Oct. 2020 with his Navy vet photo.  I didn’t have one from him previously and had been asking everyone to submit theirs in time to update the slide-show prior to Veterans’ Day on Nov. 11th.  Here’s an excerpt from his e-mail reply, laced with typical Richard humor:

"Try this one.  Eddie Arnold took it, and I have the same shot of him.  I'm holding my weapon of choice.  A fully loaded, semi-automatic 8mm Speed Graphic "Camera".  We were both photographers at the time. Location was about 5,000 miles east of Saigon in a sleepy village called "Grand Prairie, TX".....rough area but we came through all right.  We spent the next 2 years protecting the West Coast from invasion....not a single enemy got through.”

If that doesn’t make you chuckle & smile, following an otherwise sad occasion, I’m all out of ideas.  I felt we were overdue for some humor and held this one back til we were ready – hope you were, too. [cool]

Thanks you Don for the anniversary wishes.  I think I got a keeper.  I am so sad about Richard, and many others that have passed on.  The toll this virus has had is just incredible.  Last year for a our 50th, we had a trip booked to San Francisco and the wine country and the wine train.  Not only did all of that go into the dump, but now all of the wineries are ashes, and Northern California has become the poster child for climate change.  I am going to go to church tomorrow, and pray for relief for all of us, and compassion for the families who are still grieving for the losses we have had.  Its' just not party time anymore.

Don, did you text me a couple of days ago?

Sam & Sarah - I join with our other classmates in sending prayers and sincere condolences following the news of her brother's passing.  Had it not been for COVID, he and others related to our classmates might still be with us.

Folks, I'm not sounding the alarm, but want to raise your awareness, that some in our age group and older who've been fully vaccinated are becoming infected with the virus.  In our small community of Lago Vista, NW of Austin along Lake Travis, 2 couples in the past 2 weeks have tested positive.  They were  all vaccinated back in Mar/Apr. - only 3 mos. ago.  So far, no deaths reported, and of course, we're all praying for them to recover.

We're going to mask-up & try to play it safe, regardless of all the relaxation that has taken place over the last several weeks.  We hope everyone else continues to do all you can to stay safe as well.

My heart goes out to Sarah and Sammy Smith on the passing of Sarah's brother. Having lost my wife to Covid, last November, I still feel lost. Life does not feel the same to me. But, I keep trying to make sense out of it all. You two I are very dear to me. You are on my mind and in my prayers. I love you two dearly. May God bless you both through this sad time. Looking forward to seeing the two of you sweet friends again soon.

SNL - Yes, your post was a sad double whammy - adding Richard to our 'In Memoriam' page and having to postpone the prospects of a mini due to the Delta variant flare-up, but understandable.

I suspect we'll need a 3rd vaccination to catch-up with this bug, for now - may become an annual shot, like flu.

I'm e-mailing you separately, re: Richard.
