Comments: Thank you all very much for the Birthday wishes. Sorry I've not been on the GB in awhile! Sending happy birthday wishes to those I've missed, and prayers to all those in need. Yuvonne
Comments: SNL, any word yet about Don's brother James? We all certainly hope and pray he comes through this ordeal. Toni, that's such encouraging news about Stephen. I can feel your joy over the progress. Mike and I had a treat today watching our grandson Trey in his first "rock concert". Trey just turned 11 and has been taking electric guitar lessons for about 6 months. The event was held at the music school where he takes lessons and it was such fun watching the kids perform. They all did a great job, including the 11 year old girl singer in his group.
Comments: Ada, count me in on the chain! So sorry to hear of all the bad news admist our small bit of good news. Stephen was transferred to a long-term facility in Carrollton and has been off of the ventilator for a full 24 hours now. He has undergone p/t and s/t and is holding is own! Katie even thinks that she might tackle his hair today. He continues to receive dialysis daily. I just about dropped my phone when I received a picture of a male nurse walking Stephen and his IV around the ICU. Miracles do happen! Sandy Mc - fiction!
Comments: Congrats, Ada Ann!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that's great news Happy belated birthday to those I missed. Prayers to those who need. I stumbled across a show last night, Shakey's Hill, on the military channel that I would recommend to anyone who is/was curious about what it was like in Vietnam. This is not a movie, but was filmed by a combat cameraman serving with the 5th of the 7th in Cambodia in mid 1970. While I believe that Vietnam was truly a unique experience for everyone who served there, this gives a no glamor, day to day life as a jungle grunt.
Comments: Sandy, I'll be praying for Don's brother. AAHW, congratulations!
Comments: Sandy and Don, we are praying for James to get through this surgery and begin the healing. Our thoughts are with you now. God bless you Ada Ann, for sharing the good news of your recovery and reminding us of the hope we have in God and the joy of friends who will pray fervently for us in our time of need.
Comments: My 1 year CTScan !was fine....1 year cancer free...woohoo!
Comments: SNL, A group prayer chain is called for....we will all do our part.
Comments: I hate to pile on bad news, but Don & I truly need your prayers. I am asking on behalf of Don's brother, James Broughton. He got EColi from a restaurant there in Hstn abt 2 mo ago. He was very ill & Dr gve him some strong antibiotics for 10 days. Got better, then abt 3 wks later he started gtng very sick again & began to throw up blood. His wife rushed him to hospital & he's bn hospitalized in ICU since Nov 7. He's not gtng better & has taken turn for the worse! Will do surgery this afternoon to remove his very infected colon & whatever else they think needs to be done. He is so bloated & ballooned up he can't breath well. Due to stress on his heart he had a mild heat attack Tue. This is scary & we're all in shock as it suddenly took a turn for the worse!! Please, today & this weekend, pray that James makes it thru surgery & that his condition will begin to improve! I would greatly appreciate your prayers!!!
Comments: I recvd update from Jill, Donna's dtr. Donna's surgery won't happen tda, maybe next wk. She's taken a bad turn & as you can see, our old SOC friend sure needs our prayers!! I decided to just copy & paste Jill's msg so you can read what she wrote. Donna, hang in there girl, us SOC people are tough! I love ya & will keep praying for your improvement. "She is not on the ventilator now. She will need to go on it for the surgery. The doctor had said she could probably come home for the weekend (return Monday for surgery Tuesday)since she has not been home for nearly 2 months and she was doing much better. She was very excited, but started feeling really sick last night. This morning they told her she could not come home. Her blood pressure has dropped really low and they say that she is having kidney problems now, probably due to the diabetes. I called her a bit ago but she did not feel like talking. I am really worried. I thought she was getting better. Thank you for the prayers and please keep them coming. Jill "
Comments: McMakin - I say FACT! ![]() Coasty Don, hope you know YOU are included in that sentiment!! It was good to see on TV all the neat things being done yesterday for the Veterans. Donna Rexroat Holman's surgery will not take place tda. Her lungs are not strong enough for surgery. I'm expecting a full update shortly.
Comments: FACT OR FICTION? Bovie Browning was and usher in my wedding many, many years ago. He left early because there was no Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer being served.
Comments: Sent to our SOC '66 vets earlier today: Sending my personal best regards & wishes to you all today, plus our Marines on the 235th anniversary of the Corps, yesterday.
Sincere thanks for your service to our country and the countless sacrifices that some will never appreciate.
Lastly, prayers for all our fallen classmates, family members & friends who ‘gave all’ and continue to live in our memories.
‘Coasty’ Don LCDR, USCG (Ret) Semper Paratus

Comments:
To all the Military Veterans from the South Oak Cliff class of 1966.
May your Veterans Day 2010 be a great one...worthy of your service and sacrifice.
And please take a moment of silence to remember those lost in combat and those no longer with us.
May God Bless all.
