Place: DS Comments: Mr. Holland is deceased. Thank you Toni for the info provided. Lisbon is still in the name of the school. (Forgot his initials) blank, blank, Holland School at Lisbon. Apparently it was thought over before doing so.
Place: Desoto Comments: Yvonne, before you let Dale read the event page, hide his plaid jacket and leisure suit.
Place: Southlake Comments: Rob Jobe is home from hospital and doing good. I'm half Black. Can I get part of a school named after me?
Place: Dallas Comments: Mr. Holland was black.
Place: LV, TX Comments: Toni - Regarding your earlier comment/question: "It is sad to hear about DISD changing the name of Lisbon. Does anyone know if Mr. Holland was black? My guess is that he was or is!" In other words, if he was once black, did he stay that way? That's funny, I don't care who you are! ![]() Anyway, here's a coupla links to clear-up the issue, but not necessarily un-piss-off any of us: http://www.wfaa.com/news/local/Dallas-ISD-school-gets-new-name-116252394.html http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local-beat/DISD-Renames-School-for-Black-Educator-116238634.html
Place: LV, TX Comments: Sandy McM & SNL - Can't believe you opened yourselves up like that to this bunch with the blender incidents. It's sorta like throwing chum in a shark tank! Hell, if you'd said you were making margs, you could've at least blamed it on the tequila, which has been rightfully blamed for countless other accidents & disasters - just like the drugs! But, I got a good howl & visual on both descriptions. ![]()
Place: FW Comments: Happy Birthday, Rosemary!
Place: Calif. Comments: Since you guys were discussing schools, I looked up Clinton P Russell, which is where I went. It says it covers grades 4-5...only two levels. Seems odd, though the school gets a 9 out of 10 rating overall.
Place: Reunion frame of mind Comments: OK girls & guys, Please go to our EVENTS pg and read all the activities. I implore you . . . do it NOW! Place: Southlake Comments: Happy Birthday Rosemary
Place: Richardson Comments: Sandy Mc - About 15 yrs ago I was making strawberry malts for Don & I. I stirred the malted in & put the lid on, forgetting to remove the spoon!
Place: DS Comments: Toni, I just read your post, it is funny but sad.(I love the Vik comment) As I was looking at DISD history, most of the new school have been named after Hispanics, but they also make up the majority and have since early or mid 2000. No money for new schools, so this maybe the first of many.Happy birthday Rosemary! Hope it's been the best on yet. Don and Doc, take it easy and don't try to rush the rehab. Good to hear you are both doing good.
Place: DeSoto Comments: Lisbon School District was annexed by Dallas in 1928, 83 years ago. At that time there were 12 schools in Lisbon District. Still have not found when the school actually opened. SJM, Hinojosa is what I was thinking or the "lady" that was fired (can't remember her name) Hawkins Elementary, doesn't sound bad, without the "D" word. Has anybody ever turned on a blender and forgot to put the top on it? My hair smells of berries and yogurt,...not too bad.
Place: McKinney Comments: How does "Happy Jack Hawkins School Of Detention" sound?
Place: USA Comments: Happy, happy birthday Rosemary...wherever you are!! Hope you are having a great birthday celebration. Sad Jack....here's the scoop....Sarah Zumwalt was one of my mother's teachers at O. M. Roberts Elementary School, on E. Grand Avenue, in Dallas, Texas, somewhere around 1919 or 1920!!! It is sad to hear about DISD changing the name of Lisbon. Does anyone know if Mr. Holland was black? My guess is that he was or is! The next thing you know, they will be naming John Neely Bryan Elementary - my guess is John Wiley Price Elementary!!!!! They would have to lend his name to an elementary school for the obvious reason! Then, perhaps Sarah Zumwalt will become Robert Medrano Middle School....get the picture??? T. L. Marsalis could possibly be renamed Michel Vick Elementary to go with his key to the city! It goes with the territory! Sad but true! |
