I was able to get a message to Rod Savage.  He sent back saying the wind has changed direction and fire going away from them now.  Lots of smoke so staying indoors.  Watching closely but so far so good.  thank goodness they are safe for now!

'9/11' was one of the worst memories of my adult life - especially when the 2nd plane struck the other tower and later when both towers crumbled to the ground.

I still have the ball cap given to me by Shortcake & Toni from the USS New York (LPD-21), a Navy ship that was built partly with steel salvaged from World Trade Center wreckage.  The banner below the crest of the ship's emblem reads: "Never Forget".

No Toni, all I know about Rod is what he has posted on FB.  The last time a day ago he said the fire was 50 mi or so from him. I urged him to pack a quick get-a-way pack and food for his animals and be ready to leave as it could be at his back door in minutes.  He said they were watching closely.

If I hear anything I will post it.

Sandy, not to downplay in any way the loss of Smokey or 9/11 but, have you heard anything from Rod Savage? Doesn’t be live in Oregon? I see that the fires are spreading in Oregon as well. Anyone heard from him?

None of us will ever forget what we saw that surreal morning and what happened throughout the day.  Or, exactly where we were as we watched it all unfold on the TV. I chose this one pic as all the others were too graphic and they bring back so much pain.  Today 9-11 has been designated Patriot Day.  Observe it appropriately.  God Bless the USA.

Thank you Carol.  I changed it out when I posted the info on Smokey.  And you are exactly right . . .  It just seemed the right image to use.

Sandy - I just noticed the eagle and the stars. Not sure when you added them, but I think of them as a fitting tribute to Smokey. πŸ’•

Uh, Larry, I think Buddy Capps would take issue with your statement.

Don, do you recall on the Boude Storey team that you and I played on, the starting backfield was Harvey Bass, Larry Reid, Buddy Capps, and Smokey Kimbrough?  Now they're all gone but Buddy.  I can't believe it, but with what he has gone through since 2014, I understand.  Rest in peace Smokey.
