Comments: Sam Smith, I remember the Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells when we were going to Camp Dallas with ROTC at Camp Wolters. I don't know if it had guests then, but it did have a nice restaurant in the lobby. Quite ornate.
Comments: Happy Birthday Danny Fugate 8-15-09. Didn't We Have a Good Time ![]()
Comments: Sam -- I read about the Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells. Too bad, it's just standing vacant and not been refurbished. It looks like it once was a great place to stay. The hotel has an interesting history.
Comments: Jack, It was an easy derive since we went hwy 121 by DFW airport, connected to north 820 and straight to I-30. Next time we go, we're going to stop for a couple of hours and visit in down town Mineral Wells. Anyone get a chance to google the baker hotel and read the history?
Comments: Congratulations Ronney on your lovely daughter's graduation. She is positively beaming (much like you and your wife) in the photo. I know she will be a great success in her field. Linda P., maybe Ryan's hair turned white from fright while on her far off adventure. Glad she is home again.
Comments: Richard, one word comes to mind...."ouch"......or maybe three others..."run, Richard, run"...lol Linda, glad to hear that Ryan made it home safely. She'll never forget those memories and probably won't realize how dangerous all of that was until...well, until possibly she's no longer afraid to stay in a house by herself...lol. You all enjoy yourselves tomorrow, Ladies! Capt'n Jack, little "a" is going out of the country to visit her husband's relatives. Does anyone know where the Smileys might be? Haven't heard from her in a few days. Heard from Shortcake this morning.....it's 50 degrees in Chama NM! ![]()
Comments: Happy birthday (belated) Linda! Sorry I'm late. 2 hours from Coppell to PK, Sam? You must not have slowed down to see any of the sights!!
Comments: Thanks for posting Katie's M.A. graduation photo. I love that picture. But, I am glad the graduation (and having a kid in school) is over!
Comments: Bill Torbett is home & doing pretty good. His two dtrs are taking turns staying with him. He really appreciates the cards he has recvd from this SOC grp, so please, send a few more! The address shown for Christie (Blevins) Torbett & Bill is correct in our directory.
Comments: Linda, here's the link http://www.harborliving.com/ it took us two hours from Coppell. This is a video and you can get directions. We stayed for a long weekend, I would suggest spending the night. When you drive through Mineral Wells, be sure to see the infamous Baker Hotel. A lot of history involved. It was visited by the Rich and famous as well as foreign dignataries to bathe in the mineral baths. You can google baker hotel mineral wells tx and click on their official website.
Comments: I posted a nice pic of Ronney McKee & Family on the Misc Photos pg. It's his dtr Katie's graduation & everyone is happy. But, who among us isn't proud & happy when our kids graduate from college!! Ck it out. Congratulations Ronney!!! Hey. . . tonight is our 1st football game, albeit preseason & doubt we'll see more than a series or two with the 1st string. But, as Hank Jr wd say, "Are you ready for some football!!!"
Comments: Linda, I know you will sleep better now that your dtr is home. Sounds like she will have some great "once-in-a-lifetime" memories to tell her kids about!
Comments: Sam Smith -- I've never been to Possum Kingdom but would like to go. I've seen pictures of it and heard how pretty the area is. Which highway go you get on to go there and how long does it take? Would it be a good day trip or would spending the night be better. We'd be leaving from Duncanville. Saw my traveling twit for the first time since she'd gotten back from Spain. She was so tanned and her hair had nearly bleached out white. She did show me some pictures taken in the market place in Marrakech. One pic showed a man with a blanket/sheet on the ground with an tarp over the top and a black cobra and 2 other snakes (looked like copperheads) just curled up on the sheet not restrained in any way. The picture showed the cobra with his head up in the air, and I could tell that's what it was, but the way the man there looked and I think there was another man in the pic, they didn't seem concerned about the snake. Another pic had a man with a large monkey on a leash and the man was holding the monkey. The monkey was about the size of a medium size dog (about the size of a 25 lb dog). In the pic, the monkey looked tame as the man was holding it up and the monkey was facing him. When Ryan was trying to leave Spain to come home, she was detained and asked alot of questions about her going to Marrakesh. Why, how many went, what she did, etc. She showed me a video of her skydiving in Lisbon, Portgual, which would have scared everything out of me. And this is my daughter who is scared to stay at the house by herself.
