Place: Edmond Comments: Donald Lincoln! Such mischief!
Place: LV, TX Comments: Many thanks for the kind word, Paul. I wouldn't call our Marfa lights all that 'mysterious' - at least after some of us determined they could be taken out by a Daisy BB gun!
Place: Edmond Comments: Did Marfa Avenue have mysterious lights like Marfa Texas? Probably not, huh.
Place: Edmond Comments: Don and Kathy...the most heartfelt congratulations on this wonderful occasion. 🥳
Place: LV, TX Comments: Dale - Coincidence in house #'s, 1322 - we were on Marfa Ave., off Ramona Ave., which crossed Overton Rd. Coach Leon Turner, Clara Oliver Elem., lived 3 doors up on the corner for a while, Delma Williams lived 3 doors down, Sarah Duniho, Zita Campbell & Frankie Petrick lived 1 block down. 2 small drive-in grocery stores were on opposite sides of Ramona & Overton - V-Mac, where David Mitchell worked, and Dobb's (formerly Nick's since '36), where I worked for a big guy named 'Tiny'. Our old tel# was FR-2212, then FR4-2212, then 374-2212; grandmothers' were WHitehall2-5229 (Lincoln) & -8041 (Robinson). ![]() Now, I don't know what part of my brain that's stuck in. But, there's another part that will say go on to the store - you only need 3 items (you already know where this is heading, don't you?). Then, after walking all over the store, wracking my brain, I wind up calling home to ask what the hell that 3rd one was! ![]() Lastly, I'd like to mention that today, Kathy & I are starting to celebrate our 25th "Silver" wedding anniversary. It was the '2nd time around' for both of us and we've been blessed ever since - and so have our sons. To be continued ...
Place: Richardson Comments: Richard, it's a good thing you have family close by!
Place: California Comments: I'm lucky if I remember how to get home today.
Place: Edmond Comments: Sam, 1235 Fordham Road. Just down from Clara Oliver Elementary.
Place: Richardson Comments: Dale, I'd forgotten about the party lines! Thank goodness by the time I got to the 8th grade we had a pvt line. We had the standard black telephone with a 25 ft cord on it. Long enough I could drag it to my closet when I got a call I didn't want my little brother listening in on!
Place: Lazy S Ranch Comments: SNL, I remember having a party line that was just 1-9657. Mrs. Beall, two doors down would listen in on every bodies phone calls. Later, they added the FR for the Franklin exchange. I lived at 1322 Waweenoc for the first 18 years of my life. (till collage)
Place: Richardson Comments: Good memory Dale. Amazing we can all remember the exact address and probably pho # of our homes and our friends growing up in Oak Cliff. It seems so vivid to me. 4922 Kildare FR4-3983. Geez, it's been almost 55 yrs since I lived in that little house.
Place: ranch Comments: SNL, Yuvonne lived at 1329 Kingsley, about a half block from Pentagon Parkway. Mike Spray lived at the end of her block and Clark Smith lived across the street. Earlene Shugart lived just around the corner.
Place: Richardson Comments: Yes Mario! It was all uphill going to Autry's but a breeze coming home. I also remember Clarence Laney living the corner house at Bartlet and Kingsley. I think after our street the next one was Bartlet and then Denley.
Place: Mckinney, Tx Comments: Sandy, we lived on the corner of Kildare Ave & Adelaide Dr., just the next block over from yours. I remember Kingsley Rd., because it was an uphill ride on our bikes almost all the way to Lancaster Rd., and you’re right there weren’t many houses that I can remember facing Kingsley, mostly it seemed there were only sides of houses, right? But who knows, when you’re on your bike pedaling uphill mostly you’re looking straight ahead.
Place: Richardson Comments: OK Dale, where on Kingsley did Yuvonne live? Most homes didn't face Kingsley but some did. I lived on Kildare the 4th house from Kingsley. Mario also lived on Kildare but a few blocks down. Gordy lived 3 doors from me. |
