SNL, I remember having a party line that was just 1-9657. Mrs. Beall, two doors down would listen in on every bodies phone calls. Later, they added the FR for the Franklin exchange. I lived at 1322 Waweenoc for the first 18 years of my life. (till collage)

Good memory Dale.  Amazing we can all remember the exact address and probably pho # of our homes and our friends growing up in Oak Cliff.  It seems so vivid to me.  4922 Kildare FR4-3983.  Geez, it's been almost 55 yrs since I lived in that little house.

SNL, Yuvonne lived at 1329 Kingsley, about a half block from Pentagon Parkway. Mike Spray lived at the end of her block and Clark Smith lived across the street. Earlene Shugart lived just around the corner.

Yes Mario!  It was all uphill going to Autry's but a breeze coming home.  I also remember Clarence Laney living the corner house at Bartlet and Kingsley.  I think after our street the next one was Bartlet and then Denley.

Sandy, we lived on the corner of Kildare Ave & Adelaide Dr., just the next block over from yours. I remember Kingsley Rd., because it was an uphill ride on our bikes almost all the way to Lancaster Rd., and you’re right there weren’t many houses that I can remember facing Kingsley, mostly it seemed there were only sides of houses, right? But who knows, when you’re on your bike pedaling uphill mostly you’re looking straight ahead.

OK Dale, where on Kingsley did Yuvonne live?  Most homes didn't face Kingsley but some did.  I lived on Kildare the 4th house from Kingsley.  Mario also lived on Kildare but a few blocks down.  Gordy lived 3 doors from me.

Mario, funny story about Autry's.  Mom, me and my younger brother would walk up Kingsley the 3 blocks from our house on Kildare during the summer to buy a few small things we could carry home.  We were taught to call him Mr. Autry.  My brother, who was about 4, could never remember his name.  Mom told him to remember his favorite cowboy,  Gene Autry.  Next trip to the store mom said to him, "and what do you say", my brother replied "Thank you Mr. Roy Rogers!"  Mr. Autry laughed so hard and my mom was speechless.  True story.

Sandy, Autry’s had the best chopped beef sandwiches, and would be the place to go in the mornings on our way to Zumwalt & back home for a moon pie and an RC cola along with a couple small bags of peanuts...grapette & a chocolate soldier every now and then if you could find them down in the ice water at the bottom of the metal containers by the door.

You all are getting me nostalgic.  I miss those small businesses.  For me, the “go-to-the-store-for” was baseball cards.  My friend, Roger, and I would walk 15 minutes or so from Fordham Road to the dime store whose name I can’t remember to get them. If we got Cokes, I would get irritated because I gulped mine down and Roger, who was a savorer,  still had more to enjoy of his Coke after mine was long gone. 😡. I‘m mad now, in fact. 😉

Sam, Carl's had the best candy rows in town. Right across from the Church of Christ and down from the barber shop on Ann Arbor. All within bicycle range from 1322 Waweenoc.

I don't remember Carl's but, our little store was Autry's on the corner of Lancaster & Kingsley.  I would ride my bike the 3 blocks up to Autry's and get milk & bread usually 1 to 2 times a week.  I never paid any money so I guess it was on a tab.  Of course Mr. Autry knew us, so he knew whose tab it went on.

Those were the days, I could ride my bike anywhere and there were no problems or worries about me getting kidnapped.

Hey you Lisbonites, Do you guys remember Carl’s Grocery Store?
We went there during the week to get groceries and Carl just put it on our tab. Daddy got paid on Saturday and we took cash to Carl’s to settle our tab.
