I thought the purpose of retirement was to stop burning the candle at both ends!  Yes, my oldest and dearest friend was spot-on!  I did retire!  After 18+ yrs, I decided to turn in my keys and head for the hills!   I haven't been around in a while as we immediately began entertaining Bruce's son and daughter-in-law from Alaska the very next day. They left on Tuesday morning, and I have just been attempting to recover from golf, shopping, touring the new Cowboys Stadium, Easter shopping for grandones, Easter Day with the grandones, looking at a dozen or so homes as  the kids announced they are relocating to our area and hopefully by June!  Bruce and I were able to opt out of Six Flags!  Oh I forgot, we also took them to Opening Day at the Rangers ballpark.  That was really special as my son and my grandsons also attended.  I'm still recovering and taking everything a day at a time.  I have to recover quickly as my cousins in San Diego have invited me for a trip to the wine country at the end of the month!  I never knew retirement could be so much work!  Happy belated birthday, Rod.  Susan, glad to know your procedure went well. Our little Hudson is growing like a weed!   Happy birthday to our little Sophie!  Now, I'm gonna take a look at all the new pictures I've missed.

RN/JD - Remember, black-eyed peas & grits must be dipped in batter first, then deep fried.

Thanks for all of the birthday wishes, I appreciate them a lot. Don L, I guess I will have to work on my Stealth mode, since Ada blew my cover.
Had a quiet dinner out with Linda and our son Cliff, will be seeing the Grandkids this weekend, so all is good.
Thanks again everyone.

No problemo JD (I remember the comments Linda...that's why I make wise cracks in that area).  So, JD...would you consider "South" Vietnamese food?  It's mostly breaded and fried in Canolo oil with black eyed peas and grits.

Richard/JD -- remember awhile back on the GB, we had a discussion about former vn vets not eating any food that was vietnamese?  Hot dogs sounds good to me and a little burnt, too.

Bruce's son and daughter-in-law have been in town for the last week and Toni has been running all over the place with them.  They are considering moving to the area - that is the reason she has not been on the GB lately.  Talked to her for a few minutes yesterday and she has not even gotten to enjoy her retirement yet - I think she still feels like she is just on a vacation.  She needs sleep now.

New flash ladies:  we cannot go to the zodiac room - it has been so long since we have been there that they closed it.    I am just devastated.  I did not get to go that often but I loved that place - got to check and see if I can still get some of the same foods in the other place there.

SNL - I'll sift thru the wildflower pix we took on Sun. & send a set for temp viewing on the website.  Kathy's niece snapped 53 & I took 67, so I'll try to select 15-20 of the best.

Linda - We drove a few miles west of the town of Burnet, off Hwy 29 & FM 2341, which goes out to the Vanishing River cruise.  A bit further west on 29, we took Park Rd 4 into the Inks Lake State Park area, but stayed on the winding road outside the park entrance.  We then went further west on 29, then north on RM 1431 toward the town of Tow & the winery.  I think if you stay on 29 between Burnet & Llano, and hit the main side roads, you won't find many bad routes, but do it soon.

Ada - I'll shoot you some extra shots via e-mail, if you like.  Due to the weak winter rainfall & drought conditions since settling here in '96, we've had a 'bumper crop' only about every 5 yrs or so.  Some of the other varieties haven't yet popped out, but we expect more during the next coupla months.

H a p p y  B i t h d a y wishes go out to Rod Savage, today!  Rod – Don’t know how we’ve managed to exchange all the e-mails & somehow, your birthday flew under the radar – I even have your anniversary info!  But, no longer – you’re on the big list now, with all the other old codgers, & an annual reminder setup.   All that aside, we hope you have a great one & that Linda will treat you royally.  You really need to come down for a mini or formal reunion one of these years, the sooner, the better – best wishes!

Happy Birthday Rod! Hope it was great.

JD, you should meet the Vietnamese guy who does my nails. His father was a black GI that he never got to know. But you would love his politics. He is just right of Glenn Beck. He loves "his" country (says America is his beloved home now). He is glad to be out of the communist government of his former country. He works hard, pays taxes and cherishes his right to vote against candidates with socialist leanings. Just saying not all fit into the same box.
