Holt Challenges Texans to Raise $1 Million

San Antonio Spurs owner Peter M. Holt has challenged Texas residents to raise funds for the Education Center at The Wall and has pledged to match all funds raised in the state up to $1 million.

"Those of us who served in Vietnam will never forget the faces of our brothers who fought and died beside us," Holt said. "I strongly believe we should put faces with the names on the granite wall."

A Vietnam veteran, Holt served as chairman of the campaign to build the Education Center for a year and continues to take an active role on the leadership team.

Texas was the first state to pledge its support of the Education Center, when Gov. Rick Perry joined the leadership team in November 2008. On April 14 of this year, Texas became the first state to kick off its grassroots campaign to build the Education Center with an event at DFW National Cemetery, near where two Texans whose names are on The Wall are buried.

There are 3,416 individuals from Texas whose names are on The Wall. The Texas leadership, including Gov. Perry and Jay Kimbrough, state coordinator for the Texas grassroots campaign, are dedicated to gathering photos for every Texan on The Wall in tandem with raising funds for the Center.

Happy Anniversary, Toni and Bruce. Now, what kind of snake would you like for me to send to you as a gift? I thought of you, yesterday, while at work. Octavia, the Romanian woman working at Brooks Brothers was working on a clothing display. Suddenly, she let out some screams. I went to see what was wrong. She was up on a step stool. On the floor was a frightened, baby striped gecko. It was maybe an inch long. I had to catch it and put it into a container. Lana, a Mexican woman at Brooks Brothers took it home and let it lose in her flower bed. But, when I saw Octavia screaming over a harmless little baby gecko, I thought of you in the library at T.L. Marsalis Elementary School in the 7th grade. haha!!!!

Dear Ms McMakin:

Please accept the fact that Mr. Hawkins and Mr. Watts as well as Mr. Smiley seldom are able to provide advise, share their personal feelings...but most of all provide the truth.

There has not been a boycott of the GB. However, many of us, I must assume, have gone underground. You know, lurking like Mr. Watts has done for years.

Now on another subject, please don't tell us that it is easy to read your mind. I have yet to have the ability to read any of your ladies minds...and this is knowing that I personally am too dumb to read my own...so how can I read yours...or any of you ladies.

But it is nice to see you post...you have such a kind and sweet approach to all...unlike Ms Reynolds "aka" "Shortcake" who is always trying to stir the pot...so to speak.

And finally, Mr. Lincoln and I had dinner last night...he finally paid for the meal...and we held a wonderful discussion on politics, the ladies of our class and other incidental topics that are not worth mentioning. This time he also did not start a fight, so I didn't have to defend him and saved myself the bail money to get out of jail like his last trip.

His knowledge was also so sharp that I was embarrassed to try and hold my end of the conversation as my intellect has never been able to match his...or really anyone else in our class for that matter. But I enjoyed his company and the free meal while pretending to know what I was espousing about.

May everyone have a wonderful summer day!
